Can anyone please tell me how much it would be to rent a cab from a Disney resort, for example Pop, to Universal studios? TIA

I can't say how much from Pop Century, but my parents took a cab to Universal when we went in November. They took a cab to and from POFQ and it cost them $50 each way and that was with tip. I would imagine it would be around the same from other Disney resorts. They wished they would have just used Mears since it would have been cheaper but taking a cab was easier because they just came and went right when they were ready to go.

Also contact Tiffany Towncar service........We've never used them for WDW to US but we have used them from the airport to WDW and they were great every time! Cheaper than a cab.

You are better off renting a car for one day. You can get a car at the Car care center or the Swan/Dolphin. I believe its National and Alamo. You can rent a car for less than $50 per day and if you are going just for the day, thats it.

Mears Transportation is one of the biggest cab companies in the Orlando area. They have an app for Android and Iphone. The app lets you book, pay and tip right from your phone.

I heard that Mears offers a shuttle to universal for about $18 per person.

We went over to Universal on two separate days on our trip back in December from POP. It came out to be $35 to $37 (without tip) each way.

Our first day, we had called Mears from our room about a half hour early to have a taxi meet us in front of POP, but no one ever showed up. When we asked the cast members up front about the taxi, they said none had shown up but they did have two on-call guys hanging around that morning looking for anyone who needed a ride. The one we took was a plain white transport van with a very similar name on the side, I can't remember if it was Meens or Mearns, or something similar. He was waiting & talking with the concierge but was not affiliated with Mears. Normally, my red flag starts waving of a bait & switch but he was vouched for by cast members and other than his van needing a good cleaning, he had all of his licenses, etc prominently displayed. Looked like a one-man operation. He took us (four people) over to Universal for $36 total and gave us his phone number so he could come back again at the end of the day to take us back to POP ($36 again), which worked out fine. I saw him waiting with the POP cast members at least two other days as well.

The second day, we just walked down to the pick-up area and the concierge hailed a Mears cab that was just sitting around outside. He charged $35 for all four of us as well. The return taxi to POP was about $37, just because we got stuck in rush hour traffic. Our only issue with the Mears Taxis were that while they were equipped with credit card readers, in both instances - neither cab driver could get them to work. I don't know if they were isolated incidents or a common issue.

I am planning to use Uber on my upcoming trip to go one way from Pop to a hotel near Universal. Then we will use it again to go back to the airport. I have never used Uber before, but I hear good things and it is definitely cheaper than many other options.

:thumbsup2

Definitely. It's about a 20 minute ride and costs about $20 each way tip included. And they are now fully sanctioned by the city of Orlando.

Can you speak to the availability of Uber cars early in the morning? We're planning on taking an Uber from POR to Universal two days next week around 8am and I'm a little concerned that we'll be waiting a while for a car to come to us.

The app will show you how close the nearest driver is before you "order" them, and every time that I've used Uber I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes. Morning, noon, or evening.

8AM shouldn't be a problem, but as of now I don't believe you can schedule and Uber pickup in advance unless you contact a driver directly. If you use the service before that day and find somebody you like, then ask for their number. I've done that several times before.

As far as the credit card readers in the cabs in Orlando, we have used taxis a few times and never have we been able to use a card to pay. I think that the drivers disable them so you will have to pay with cash. It was pretty aggravating because I only had large bills. I had to go to the front desk to get change while the driver waited. Now I get change before we call for a cab.

ty, so i need to upload their app in order to book them? and you can't pre book them?

cal :)

Check them out here and you can also download the app: Uber Orlando

You might even get a couple of free rides via promo codes once you setup your account.

The Transportation Board has a lot of threads on Uber, here's a recent one: UBER
