CA State Senator says she represents both citizens AND non citizens!

Well aparently it isn't just California. I would guess Teddy Fatboy Kennedy represents the illegals too. It was hideous to hear his poor attempts at Spanish. Apparently he sees them as his "new constituency". Then we can add Ct.'s John Larsen to the group.

Anybody who represents ILLEGALS does not get my vote. Simple as that.

She is the representative for all residents of her district in California. What is so hard to understand about that? After all, they ARE people and they ARE residents-working, going to school, consuming and participating in the economy. Should she simply ignore them and pretend they do not exist? OR maybe you think that the reps and Senators should only represent those who vote or better yet-property owners, therefore ommiting children, renters, college students, and the disabled. WTH, indeed!

So if one commits a crime, like say...paying a stripper or viewing on line pornography...this makes them an "illegal" in my opinion and you think they deserve respresentation? I guess everyone has SOMETHING that bothers them about other people. If you break the speed limit....are you an illegal? How about drinking and driving? How about domestic abuse; do those people deserve respresentation? I would personally love to see those listed above lose all rights and representation. They've broken laws so no representation.
I really don't think it's "simple" at all.

I heard in Florida, perhaps in the Ft. Myers area? that there was a rally planned to protest the pro illegal alien move. When they got to the park the police were there, the area was fenced off and they were not allowed to assemble. You know, I don't want special rights, I just want the same rights that illegals have.

I'd like to read more about that. Got a link? I can't find anything.

Residents yes.

Non-citizens--not really. She represents them no more than the tourists who visit california from other countries or other states.

Though in viewing her home page--I do not see the statement that she is the representative for non-citizens :confused3 .

If I visit her district--she's not really my representative. Just b/c someone crosses the border illegally and poof--appears in her district, they are not her constituent.

She might as well extend her representation to Mexico. But last I checked--they are not a state. And per her state democratic caucus message--allowing illegal immigration does not move CA forward.

I'm confused by your post.

But for me, if an elected representative says that they represent ILLEGAL immigrants, they will not get my vote. That IS simple.

Again, I don't understand what you are saying.

Ever heard Italians referred to by the derogatory term WOP? Know what it means? It means "With Out Papers". This is FAR from a recent phenomenon.

The people getting their knickers in a twist about this issue are doing nothing but :stir: trying to come up with a "wedge" issue for the November elections. We've got far bigger issues to worry about in this country (poverty, security, health care...the list goes on, so take your pick).

And all of those issues could be lessened if we eliminated ILLEGAL immigration. EVERY SINGLE ONE of those issues.

And, as I have stated, I am only against ILLEGAL immigration. Do it LEGALLY, and I am ok with it.

I can not for the life of me understand how ANYBODY except ILLEGAL immigrants can think otherwise.

The last time I looked paying a stripper, and viewing porn was not against the law in CA, but coming into this country illegally is. That is simple. Heck why did you come out and say they should be able to vote also, or better yet run for office. :rotfl2:

wvrevy, wvrevy, wvrevy,

Nice try to change the issue. This is a huge problem that needs to be dealt with. ( election year or not ) All the money that could be saved not having to support the Illegal people. ( From all the countries ) Please don't toss in the you will need to pay more for farm good. WHO CARES! That argument is old and tired. It has been a issue for a while now, but no one would step and and do something about it.

Maybe they were at the wrong free speech zone.

Or maybe they didn't have a parade permit- there could be a million reasons.

But, I do not support a politician who votes for a guest worker program or to forgive illegal activity. Arlen Specter will never again get my vote, and yes, as a Dem, I did vote for him, a Republican.

Legally, she's only supposed to represent American citizens. However, I see her point since the illegals are there like it or not and presumably some pay taxes.

This problem will have to be resolved for many reasons. This situation is costing border states dearly plus border security is nonexistent. Some might argue that these problems are unimportant but that doesn't mean that they should continue to be ignored.

I believe she is supposed to represent constituents.

Constituents: a member of a constituency

Constituency: a body of citizens entitled to elect a representative (as to a legislative or executive position)

Amendment XV to the Constitution

Section 1.
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude--

Anyone see this nice flyer being distributed at the rallies in Texas?

Democrat%20protest%20literature

Notice the map of Texico.

I guess the illegal immigrants are planning on voting, and it looks like the Democrats are going to fight to allow it (or at least fight any attempt to prevent it). Just like they are fighting in various states to allow felons to vote.

I've noticed that the illegal immigrant advocates try to frame the debate as "anti-immigrant", when it is nothing of the sort. They conveeeniently leave out the "illegal" and try to tug at the heartstrings of citizens who are, or who have parents or grandparents who were legal immigrants. Shameful.

Our illustrious governor in PA, Fast Eddie Rendell, just vetoed a bill that would have required some sort of ID to be shown before voting. He doesn't want to stop that 105% turnout in Philadelphia. It's too much of a "burden" to show ID to vote, yet my wife just had to show ID to buy allergy medicine for my daughter!

Rendell has been a fantastic governor. Republicans everywhere are raising taxes, and Rendell has kept them down. I'm pretty sure there is an issue of people being required to supply a specific id with a certain address. I know when I drove people to the polls in the poor, African American districts, there was a Republican objector, while in the richer, white district, there was no one. It's just about making voting more difficult for the poor, the people with no steady address, etc. All in all, I don't see where righties or lefties should have a problem with Rendell, except for his speeding. I could tell you about Melissa Hart and her drinking with no designated driver, but that probably isn't what yoiu want to hear. There's also Rick Santorum, who stole the education money from PA while his kids resided in VA..

All in all, I don't see the illegal issue as Dem vs. Rep, but working middle class people vs our politicians, who only care about the Hispanic vote and the money from the companies and corporations who hire illegals. Hey, we need to vote with our convictions, regardless of party. Even Rush is speaking out against the Republicans who won't confront the illegal issue.

The Democratic governor of NJ just made a couple of whopper increases and cuts in education so it isn't just republicans.
