C25K! Anyone else in?

Hi everyone! This is my very first post ever - on any message board anywhere! I hope I'm doing this right.

Anyway, my family and I are on week 1 day 3 of c25k - our goal is to run our very first race (5k) at Disney this fall all together as a family. We tried to run last summer, ended up putting things off when it got cold and are just getting started again. We never quite hit the 5k mark last year, so I'm hoping that we can this time.

Congrats to everyone who is on this journey - you should be proud of yourselves - getting up and getting going isn't always easy but the end result is worth it!:cheer2:

And really, I'll do just about anything to try to get back to Disney soon!!!:rotfl:

Welcome nbmanatee to the Dis Boards! the Wine and Dine weekend looks like a lot of fun!

I took a two day break and attempted W4 again. The first time I did it (Saturday) I could barely do the first 3 minute run, and about half of the first 5 minute run. After that I gave up.

I did some yoga last night and tried again this morning. I successfully ran the first 3 minutes with no problem, the first 5 minute run was tough but i FINISHED!!! I took a longer than 90 second walking break, and finished the second 3 minute! Took a longer than 90 second walking break and ran about 4 minutes. So I didn't finish the whole thing and I can tell i'll be repeating W4 at least once. But I did feel very good after the first 5 minute run!

That is great, that is kind of how I was on w3d1 so maybe you will get through the whole way next time. GL!

:welcome: We're all honored that your first post ever on a message board was here on our C25K thread! :thumbsup2 Good luck to you and your family. :goodvibes

I just completed week 8. :cool1: I'm quite sore right now from the lunges I did yesterday. Doesn't bother me when I run, but stretching afterwards... :scared1:

My new (like two weeks old) veneer fell off in my sleep last night so I had to go to the dentist this morning instead of running. Dh happened to have a dentist appointment this morning at 8 so I just went in with him, how weird is that?!
I am hoping to get it in tonight after hubby gets home but, maybe I will try out the treadmill.
Oh well, off to the library and a picnic with our friends. :thumbsup2

I was all set to start W1D1 last night and didn't get home from work until 6:30! Ugh.

So, I'm gearing up to get started tomorrow night. Have to go to the funeral home tonight.

I'm going to start out in the evenings. I just can't seem to make myself get up any earlier, although that may change as it gets warmer and warmer here.

I hate getting up early! Every time I do I feel so good for most of the day. I do kind of crash by the early evening but, it really makes you want to get that feeling back.

I'm sure that would be the case for me, too. I'm an "early to bed" kind of person, anyway! :rotfl2:

I just noticed that you're from Indiana, too. I live on the southside of Indy, where do you live?

I live on the south side too! We are in Franklin township.

I am on C25K week 3, day 3. I love this program because I am definitely not a runner, but I have been able to complete all of the runs so far, so it is encouraging.

My biggest problem is passing people, or getting past people who are walking. What is the best etiquette when running on a sidewalk. I am not really fast enough to pass people and they will probably pass me during my walking times! Also, I crank my C25k so loud I'm afraid I will be yelling, "excuese me!" instead of saying it at a normal voice level. Right now, I cross the street (I run in my neighborhood) every time I need to pass someone, but there has to be a better way!

Anyways, that sounds silly, but I was wondering if someone had a better solution than crossing the street. Although, soon I will be up to running further and I won't have to worry about those speed walkers passing me during my resting walks right after I passed them! Please tell me I am not the only one who thinks about stuff like this!

I start week 4 tomorrow morning. I am terrified! I know I need to get over it or I won't be able to do it. I am really starting to see how powerful the mind can be with running.
Did you see Biggest Loser this week? The largest guy (I think his name is Michael) ran one mile on the treadmill and was so happy. Then Bob said try for another mile and he ran 3.1 miles then Bob said go for 5 miles and he did it. He 'couldn't' even run one mile and then he went right to five once he realized he could do it!

I have just started C25K this morning, I had never even heard about it until a friend mentioned it on Facebook. I was out running at 5:30 this morning which sounds early but actually is late as I am on nightshift and what else are you going to do that early in the morning. This was just W1D1 but hopefully I can stick with it, I have had achilles problems in the past but hopefully with this slow and steady build it won't happen again. It is just so long since I have ran that it felt strange at first and I will need to work on my form but enjoyed the crisp morning. Congrats to those who have graduated. Wish me luck.

I start week 4 tonight. I am so nervous. Am I ready for this? I'm not sure. However eveyone on the C25K board says "trust the system" so that is what I am going to do.

Trust YOURSELF, too! That 4th week is daunting (or it was for me, anyway) because it's longer than you've ever run. But I think you'll surprise yourself. You've made it this far - you ARE ready and you CAN do it!!!!

You can do it! Just believe in yourself and trust the program.

I was soooo nervous about starting week 4 also. I had to do a lot of mental cheering for myself as I was running. I kind of was treating the last 5 min run like a victory lap. That kind of helped it go by faster. :rotfl: It's a good thing we don't have little thought bubbles over our heads, huh?!

I am sidetracked again with some health issues. We also went to an amusement park Sat. so I am bit beat from that. I will get back out tomorrow morning to get my w4d2 in and then Thurs. to finish up week 4. Then I get to be all nervous about week 5 which I am scared to even look at.
