C25K! Anyone else in?

I finally made it through the 25-minute run! :cool1: I can now move on to week 7. I feel like I've made it over the hump of the C25K. Feels like the next three weeks is just maintaining and gradually increasing the total run time by five more minutes. Feels good to be at this point. :goodvibes

So, I've been sick the past 4 days, and I finally got back on the treadmill today.
I went for about 30 minutes last Monday but I didn't count that as anything. Today I ran a 5k, about 1 minute slower than the St. Patrick's day, but it doesn't really matter.
Hopefully I'm back on the train, and I guess today would start my W8D1? I'm not really sure, we'll just go there.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I finished week 1!!!! Yay me!

W1D2 was the most difficult day. Day 3 was almost the same as Day 1. I start my first run of week 2 tomorrow. Tonight is upper body strength training at the gym. THis week's plan:

Monday - upper body strength at gym
Tuesday - W2D1
Wednesday - off day
Thursday - W2D2
Friday - lower body strength at gym
Saturday - W2D3
Sunday - off

On a side note: I went to a place called "If The Shoe Fits" and was fitted for good running shoes. I normally wear a size 8.5-9 but my running shoes are a size 10 narrow. The guy said that the foot expands when running so you need them to be big enough for your toes not to be scrunched. I ran for the first time in them on Sunday and they felt amazing!

Pain wise: Right shin is a little sore; left outter foot is sore. Hopefully I will have all of my soreness/adjusting done soon. I would love to be pain free running but for now I am pushing through.

Week 2 here we come!

BTW I love the podcasts that some with it. The guy is a motivator and calming at the same time. lol

W8d2 done. I have to say, I think this one was the hardest mentally for me. The first 10 minutes were torture, as were the last 5. I got my new Nike+ sensor, and it says I did 3.22 miles in 38 minutes, with an avg. of 11.47 minute miles. I skimped my cool down walk, just got to the car! I only have 4 more runs until graduation, I hope they aren't all this big of a pain! :confused3

I did W6D3 yesterday and decided to try running outside for the first time. I have done the rest of the program on my treadmill. OMG, it was terrible! NOTHING like running on the treadmill. It started raining (albeit lightly) halfway through, and that was actually the best part.

I have been a little sore in the past after a treadmill run, but I am downright in PAIN this morning. OUCH!

I feel like I've taken a HUGE step back and I am so bummed. Maybe running outside really isn't for me, which is bad because I get so bored running on my treadmill!

Don't feel bad, the same thing happened to me. My second run outside was much easier. For me part of it was the unknown of running outside. The second and subsequent outside runs have been much better. Also, I slowed down. The first run outside, my adrenaline was flying, great weather and the excitement of running with other people around.

The strangest thing is even though it feels like I'm running slower outside, I'm actually running faster miles by 1 minute.

Ouch.
Finished W1D2 today after work - still a little sore from D1. I guess I'll have sore on top of sore for a couple days. Yesterday was painful!

congrats, way to go, and good job to ALL of you doing the program.

W1D2 was the most painful for me as well. Growing pains? lol

Tonight is my W2D1.

It has been so cold here in the mornings! I am going to do my w2d3 tonight it will only be 20˚ (F) warmer than it was this morning, ha ha.

Dznyfan, great job! Keep going, week two seems much easier to me.

Does any one have any music suggestions? I got sick of my regular music and been listening to podcasts. I think when I am running longer I am going to need some music. I was mostly listening to GLEE soundtrack stuff a few WDW songs, some Charlie's Angels, Moulin Rouge, and Austin Powers. Can you tell I like soundtracks?! I am not really a music person. I did have 'I like big butts' song which cracked me up ever ytime it came on. :rotfl2: I wouldn't mind some Christian rock but, like I said I am not a music person so I wouldn't know where to start. I will listen to anything except 80's rock (hair band kind of stuff, shudder).

Week 7 done, as well as my first 10K!

Started Week 8 last night. Wasn't too bad, but I am still recuperating a little from the race so still a little stiff.

I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the 10K, although I didn't get to run as much as I wanted to. I did the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston this past weekend, and it was very, very cold! We had to stand out in the cold for 2 hours before the race started, not to mention we had to walk almost 2 miles to the starting line! I was not prepared for that. But, out of the 6.1 total miles I ran about 2.5, so I am pleased with that. I wanted to finish in an hour and a half, but it turned out to be a little more than that. Still, for my first race ever I am pleased. And I have to admit, when I turned the corner and saw the finish line I teared up a bit! What a sense of accomplishment when I hit that finish line!

I have a 5K coming up on April 10th - very hilly - but hoping to have graduated the program and able to run it!

Three months ago I would never had dreamed I'd be able to do this! I am so glad I found this program!!!!

Congratulations Amy!! So glad you had a great first race experience. You should be so proud!!! :thumbsup2

I did W7D1 today. Technically, I didn't run for the entire 25 minutes because towards the end I had a knock on the door (delivery guy), but I got right back on the treadmill so it was probably only 30 seconds or so (treadmill is right by the door) and it wasn't like I stopped because I couldn't make it. I will go ahead and count today as completed.

Wow Amy! Amazing!!!
Hooray Carissa!

I did w6d3 today. My 1st 25 min run. I made it but just barely. I knew I'd have to turn the speed down so that helped.

Amanda

Finished week two today! I am scared of the next week. :scared1:

Amy & Amanda, big milestones both of you! Congrats!

So I attempted to run outside again today. I took a friends advice and slowed down, and it wasn't near as bad. I made it through W7D1, although my shins are KILLING me. My right leg hurts anytime I walk on it. Ugh. Hopefully it will go away by Thursday so that I can keep up with my schedule!

I wouldn't say that I did W8D2, but I pulled out another 5k on the treadmill!
Still, I wasn't able to run all the way through, I took about 30 seconds every 5 minutes to recover, and was able to finish it in 42:10, which is about 14 seconds faster than my original time. I just want to be able to go that long, even with the recovery time and get that many miles in, I don't care how long it takes me!

You are not alone! I haven't run in over a week b/c my shins hurt. I only have two more runs before I finish the C25K program--very frustrating. I ordered some Zensah calf compression sleeves to see if they help, and they will arrive today. I thought about trying them out tomorrow, but I may just wait until we return from a weekend trip before running again. That will be two weeks of rest, and hopefully my shins will be completely better by then.

I hope yours goes away quickly!

Okay...confession time here. I was supposed to do W5D2 today, but when I saw that it included an 8 minute run, I chickened out and did W5D1 again. For those of you that have done it, is it as big a hump as it sounds? :confused3

How awesome. I also did W8D2 on the treadmill and finished a 5K for the first time. It took me 44 minutes. My face was so red and I was so overheated, I thought I was going to die! Dh and I are running our first 5K in Charleston next month and I want to be ready. I'm so excited. I NEVER thought I would get this far.
