C25K! Anyone else in?

OK just dropping in real quick to say hi. I finished W2D2 today. But the real story is last night my foot started hurting a bit, not bad but tender right infront of my heel. So today I feel a bit tender but still good, and I didn't think about it and when I ran, I didn't even feel it.

I go to work and it starts to get a bit more sore. So I ask a lady at work, who used to be a high school health teacher/golf coach if she had ever heard of what might cause it to be sore. She said it may be Plantar fasciitis. I also asked my UPS driver who runs marathons. He said it could be...

I wanted to cry, why does it feel like my body is fighting me on trying to get healthy? I set a goal, and it just seems like my body is saying no. So now I have to figure out what to do about it. I'm taking tomorrow off totally to let it rest a day and see how it feels on Friday.

OH well I'm not sure what to do exactly right now. But I am gonna watch it for a couple of days. My UPS driver said to slow my pace down and perhaps take some time off if I need to. But I'm just not sure. I have a goal, and I wanna do this...but man what is going on with me.....

Sorry for being a downer right now but I just needed to vent for a bit....
Scott

I feel your pain...nearly literally. Last year I started this plan, and decided that I was ready to do more-and my left foot wasn't. I had a stress fracture which sidelined me completely for 2 months. I was furious with myself for going overboard and frustrated to have failed in achieving my goal.

SO, this time I'm being a lot more careful. If I feel pain, especially on an off running day, I pay attention to it. If it means I skip a day or two, and slow down the progress so be it. I'd rather get to the end of the program later then never get there at all because I keep doing too much and getting hurt.

Take today for example. I was all ready to get up at 4:30, head to the gym and hit the treadmill for W3D2. Well, apparently God had other ideas. The alarm never went off and I didn't get up until 6 am!!! I checked it, and I had done everything right to set it-even tested it and it worked fine so I've got to chalk this one up to divine intervention. My legs and foot were sore after starting week three on Tuesday, so maybe more rest was what I really needed. If I need to take 2 days in between to finish strong, so be it.

This program is designed to get us running, but there's no law that says everyone has to do it the same way. We need to do what gets us there whole, and that's going to be different for everyone.

If you could choose a park to use as your own personal place to run (without anyone else), which park would it be?

I would say MK....just being able to run past the castle would be awsome...

I just finished W1 D2 and I felt good. I'm trying to not look at the weeks ahead I don't want to get ahead of myself or syc myself out. One day at a time...

Question of the day: What is your inspiration for running?

My answer for the question of the day is finishing what I've started. I often start a new year with a goal for weight loss and I get so happy with the results that I forget that I still need to work on it! So, this is the first time I've hit February and kept up with it. Running really helps me stay on track. I may not have time to exercise the days that I don't run, but I make it work. :) So, my motivation to get up is that until I finish the 5K, I will not be satisfied. And by the time I get started, I don't know about you guys, but I feel really good running now. It's a challenge, but it still feels good. :goodvibes

Question of the day: What is your inspiration for running?

Right now, my inspiration/motivation is running the half marathon in January. I'm so glad I went ahead and registered right away so that I'd really know I was committed to this. Otherwise, I might have just given up at some point. I know if I don't train, there is no way I can do the half. And seeing results in my body is a big inspiration too.

Can you put me on week 3 when you post tomorrow's list? Thanks! :goodvibes

"What is your inspiration for running?"

Mine is to participate in the Princess Half Marathon in 2011. It will be around my 40th birthday, and I can't imagine a better way to celebrate!

Another goal is to get into better shape. I can tell a difference already in the few weeks I've been working on the C25K program. I still may have to repeat a few more weeks as I go, but I am already noticing changes in my body, and that is inspiration itself!

I just finished W2D3 and it was again a little rough. So I am gonna add another day to this week and start W3 on Tuesday. Only 2 intervals were bad the other 4 were great and I added an extra run segment today. So there is some improvement for me this week. :goodvibes

Got through Week 3 Day 2 today..it went ok. No real pain just some soreness which I would expect.

The park I want to run in? No doubt-MK and I just signed up for the Mickey Halloween 5K in October that will allow me to do just that.

My inspiration? I want to feel like an athlete again. I was a swimmer when I was younger and played basketball. I grew up feeling athletic and I loved how that felt. I really want to get that feeling back.

I have finished W2D3, but will not get to move on until next week. I'm visiting my DD and helping at her shop in Denver this week. Having completed the WDW Half Marathon, the park I would want to run in is Epcot, specifically the World Showcase.

My goal is to stay fit and increase my running time, as I currently walk more than I run. I plan to do some local 5 and 7K's, but DH and I are planning to do the Wine & Dine Half with friends in October. Our teams will be men vs. the ladies. I think I'm coming out on the better end in that one as the other woman is an elite runner!

Okay, after being on the WISH boards for over a year and wondering if I could be a runner, even though I was never, ever a runner in my life, DH and DS agreed to start the C25K with me next week and we are running/walking a local 5 mile race/walk at the end of April. Talk about getting out of my comfort zone! :cool2:

:welcome: I think running is out of most of our comfort zones! And that's what makes it so cool when we accomplish our workouts. :goodvibes

I just did W3D1 and it was easier than I thought it would be. I like only having 4 intervals. Makes it go by very fast. The three minutes seem so long though! My legs were hurting by the last one, but I did it.

And because the podcast for week 3 is less than 30 minutes, I just continued to walk until my treadmill showed 30 minutes.

Question of the day: What is the one food that is your guilty pleasure/what healthy substitute do you think you could try to use to replace it?

I have automatically moved everyone from the week they were on last week to the next week. If you are repeating a week, just let me know and I'll move you again.

I also think we should set goals for ourselves each week. So, I'm adding that to this week. As soon as everyone responds, I will put your goal next to your name on the Stats so that every time you come back to this forum, you are reminded of what you are trying to achieve this week. Sound like a good idea? If not, let me know and I won't put it up.

I'm very scared for Week 4, but I know I can make it. I've made it this far, after all and I never thought I'd make it here. And, after Day 2, I will be half way there, which is a very exciting thing for me. I really haven't been sticking to the work out schedule I wanted for myself in terms of off days exercise. So, that is my goal this week: to exercise on my off days.

QOTD, my guilty pleasure is chocolate. But, it is really the BITING of chocolate that I like. Melted chocolate or chocolate ice cream aren't as filling as cookies or brownies. So, I'm going to try and replace that with carrots and gum, as you can chew them a lot.

What is your goal this week?

Week three is DONE!!! :cool1::cool1:

The last day actually felt really good, so I'm ready to start week 4 on Wednesday.

At the risk of sounding like a copycat :goodvibes my goal for this week is also to put more exercise days in. I got 3 days in last week, so this week I'm shooting for 4.

Guilty pleasure food is definately ICE CREAM. I've replaced that with frozen yogurt and it's working pretty well so far.

My food problem is baked goods. I love to cook and bake and have three little ones at home who are always asking me to do so. I tend to make healthier versions of things, but I've found I just can't have that stuff in the house. I eat way too much.

I did find a great recipe for Bran Flax Muffins the other day and made those and kept myself from eating too many. They are super healthy. :thumbsup2

My goal this week is to keep track of my food intake/calories at sparkpeople.com. This is something I normally hate doing and I don't know how long I'll do it for, but I think it's important for me to really see how much I'm eating.

I was just going to lurk, and see what this is all about, and then I had to post and congratulate you lisa!! This is awesome, and an inspiration to me. That's so great you're doing with the whole family.

It's great to read how everyone is doing, and to hear people say "if I can do it, anybody can do it", and to know that any regular joe can get themselves up and moving, and then run a race.

I hope to be back an join you all later. Keep up the great work!!!

I am going to repeat Week Two this week. I was sick some of last week and wasn't able to get in all of the work-outs.

I bought the Nike+ system over the weekend and I am going to try it today. Supposedly it will work with the Podcast, so I can't wait to see how it goes.

W3D1 DONE!!!! I cant believe I made it. It whipped my butt; but I did it. I am so proud of myself. I did add an extra 2 min run interval at the end to make it a full 10 min of running for the day. The lower intervals is very nice I must say!!

Awesome! :cool1: I agree that I love having fewer intervals. Mentally it seems easier to get through knowing I only have 4 runs. :thumbsup2
