I think that BWV should get rid of the so called "preferred view." I believe that only a true Boardwalk view is worth paying the extra points a night. I think all other views should be classified as standard. Pool, water views, etc. should only be requests.

I think that is strange too. Last time I stayed there, I guess I didn't realize I was "upgraded" because we had booked a 1 bedroom standard but when we got to the room our view was overlooking the clown pool. Which I guess is a preferred view?? I really didn't even think about it until I was looking to rebook for next April and wanted a view of the quiet pool and it was preferred. Oh well, Im learning.

You don't pay more for a Preferred View, you pay LESS for a Standard View. Originally it was all one, then DVC decided to make the views over the front driveway "Standard View" with less points. Preferred View will look at gardens, water, pools, etc. It's only in the last couple years that you could request a guaranteed Boardwalk View. I suspect that was to cut down on the number of people trying to pressure the CMs at check in for the Boardwalk view. Now, you either got it or you didn't and you know before checkin. The early bird gets it.

you definitely pay less for a standard view.

It was also to stop BW front desk from letting its' renters get the good BW view and not DVC members (who are paying for the building).

standard view is definded as parking lot or drive way period.

now I would be very, very upset to get a parking lot or drive way and pay preferred view rates - then I would complaint.

to ask that all non-bw is standard is not reasonble. the BCV has some even worst views -so does VWL (service station) - DVC is not lowering those points. So why do you expect it to lower for BWV. some of those non-BW views are lovely.

I agree, they mis - reallocated the points when they did the SV. They should have made the Boardwalk Views premium and everything else should be the same (it wouldn't be Standard View points - you'd be redistriubting the points over the whole resort - so you'd end up with some compromise number - maybe with the BW View going up a little). However, at this point, with the additional resorts and a ten year history - I don't see it happening. Reallocation is a huge deal.

As it is, it helps to think that the BWView and Standard View rooms are "bargains." - The BW View is a guarenteed great view for the same number of points you pay to risk the dumpster at VWL. The Standard View gives you the Epcot area location for low points and a view no worse than some at the BCVs (or some of the preferred view rooms at the same resort).

FWIW, I disagree.

First, you'd have to re-allocate the points to make the Preferred Water/Garden and Standard View the same schedule. That's a huge deal and would send BWV owners up in arms.

Then, the poor folks at the check in desk would get rant after rant about why should someone has to "overlook the driveway" when there are such nice pool view rooms? Blah, blah, blah. It would be a nightmare.

I think Disney did a good job with a rough situation. Right now, I think its fair and BWV owners get first shot at the two more popular sections (BWView and SV).

I think they should probably do something similar at all resorts if there is a clear difference in "views" that most people would recognize. I don't think, however, that they should have different point schedules....that is probably where Disney made their mistake.

Personally, I think the option to stay at BWV for standard points---the same as OKW and the lowest of all DVC options---is the best deal around! It's the reason we added on at BWV 3 times now.

As a BWV owner I am very happy with the way it is set up right now. No changes needed!

Me, too!

Yes...I definitely like the standard view rooms and the boardwalk view rooms just as they are. Have so far eschewed the 'preferred view' non boardwalk tho. You just have to get your requests in early!

Same here. As an owner I don't want anyone messing with the present point structure. It works great. You know what you are getting when you book.

Without commenting on the technical aspects of what would happen if it were to change, I will admit wholeheartedly that a "preferred" view is definitely not worth the same to me as a "boardwalk" view is. Not by a longshot!

The decision would be what's best for the BWV owners, not DVC members in general. I'd be OK with any option including raising BW view points while slightly decreasing the other preferred view. But I really see no reason to do so and certainly don't think DVC is interested in making any additional changes.

If that happened, the current standard view points, currently as low as 9 points a night for a studio, would increase. I wouldn't want to give up those cheap points amount for anything :)

Only twice have we paid the preferred points at BWV, and we've probably rented 10 villas there over time. We really like the SV point set up, and wouldn't want it changed.

We will want to rent BW view sometimes, when we get our point deficit more in balance, heck, we're 1/2 into our '08 allotment for our '07 ressies!

leave my BWV room pts alone :lmao:

thank you veeerymuch :goodvibes

I completely agree with that statement! I am perfectly satisified with the BWV points structure as it is. The way it is set up now leads to expectations being met, and few disappoinments. One of the reasons I avoid BCV is because paying premium points for that service road view is a ripoff, and that seems to be my BCV destiny! pirate:
