BWV Refurbishment coming summer 2023?

I was just checking dates for next August and there was a big notice of construction happening to villas. Is this the long awaited room refurb?

Based on usual every-7-year per DVC resort refurb schedules (some of which were put out-of-whack by the pandemic), BWV is supposed to have a refurb in 2023. Your post is the first notice that I have seen that appears to confirm it is going to happen. That notice, which appears on the site now regardless of when you are seeking a room (e.g., if you check for a room in Oct this year, the notice is there, but likely must be referring to 2023 for BWV; possibly the Boardwalk Inn rooms may start this year), because when I checked BWV availability a couple weeks ago, it was not there.

If usual refurb pattern is followed, on the villas side, they will do about half of the fifth floor first , then the other half and then move down floor by floor from there, except that any lobby changes can occur at any time..

We are planning a stay in December 2023 as the first use of our BWL contract, so now I'm hoping we get to stay in brand new rooms!

I’m trying to decide if I stay at BWV next May or not (I do have it booked currently)… I saw this on the DVC website & it’s thrown me a curve ball without giving any timeline at all!!! I really don’t want to be there during construction. Has anyone heard of an estimated time for this refurb to happen??

Agree - strange there is no timeline. Also strange that Boulder Ridge is apparently actively being refurbed, and no notification, but this refurb is a total unknown that is generating an online alert.

I thought this notice was for the work being done on the shop, the lounge, the lobby. Would be great if they’re actually refurbishing the DVC rooms though.

The notice actually indicates ALL of it will be refurbed- lounge, lobby, shop, restaurants, AND rooms (both resort & villas).

Stupid question, but I guess if we have rooms booked already we'll be ok? Or if they need to move us for some reason, accommodated somewhere, at the very least? booked for dopey for a while, but not sure how the room renos work, time-wise.

BWV refurbs take a long time, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is a year in total. As someone mentioned, they typically do 1/2 a floor at a time, closing it off.

Any updates on the Boardwalk refurbishment as far as how long it is expected to take? I was just checking availability for all room types and pretty much need to be almost 11 months out from today to get a reservation. Trying to reserve anything with a shorter timeframe would be a wait list.

The BWV rooms were pulled from service starting in September and IIRC didn't come back online for booking until late November. That meant that even the Garden/Poolview went fast.

SV rooms were gone from the system starting in January and may have showed back up for booking sometime in March...

That leaves the rest of the rooms being worked on after that...since there are so many garden/pool view rooms, they may pull those in sections so we won't see a total block out, but definitely will see things go faster than usual.

Basically, if you are looking from September until March, I think it is going to be tough.

What do you think the odds are that the rooms are finished by then? I have a December stay planned for a Boardwalk view studio, but I'm wondering if I should cancel and bank my points. I'll be travelling with my Mom, and neither of us are going to be okay sleeping on that pullout couch.

All we know is that all BW view villas are blocked from being occupied from a certain date in September until a certain date in November. We suspect that means external work to that part of the building but don’t know whether internal work will occur at the same time. Plus, the BCV soft refurb, which involved installing the Murphy queen beds, was supposed to finish by April and now is paused and not expected to finish until “late fall.” Putting all that together, I wouldn’t count on the BW view studios being finished by December. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. If it’s important for you and your mom to be in a studio that has the queen Murphy, I’d try to move to BRV, because they have them for sure.

The anticipation of when the villa rooms will start refurbishment is killing me... not really, but I'm crossing my fingers they start sooner than later. I don't plan on staying there until end of May/beginning of June 2024 and it would be nice to have a refurbished room .
