For someone who has never been on the resort property, we are looking at booking a stay in Jan at BWV (if available). We were looking at the 1 BR, but dont know the difference between a standard and preferred view. The difference in points wont be that big of a deal, as whatever is left we will roll over to next year. Just wondering if the views are that much better or not. Thanks. oh, and any other info on the resort might be nice :)

We bought BWV sight unseen - never even having been through the International Gateway. We really enjoy it. We enjoy the easy access to Epcot. Flying Fish is a favorite restaurant, and the kids love the slide at Luna Park. They are one of the DVC resorts with a community hall - so you can play ping pong, etc., And the Boardwalk in the evening generally has street preformers (there are also Midway style games on the Boardwalk, and those surrey bikes - both mean letting go of your wallet - the surrey bikes are not easy to pedal).

The difference between standard view and preferred view:

There are actually three views at the Boardwalk:

Standard View is about 20% of the resort. Almost all these rooms face the front drive of the resort. They book early - they are a great DVC "bargain," but you could get lucky. We have found the view very pleasant.

Boardwalk View is about 20% of the resort. These are the same number of points as preferred view, but a seperate booking category. They also book early but you could get lucky.

The remaining 60% of the resort are preferred view. Some of these are nearly as good as the Boardwalk View (the rooms overlooking the Village Green), some of these are worse than some Standard View rooms for View (parking lot). Most overlook either the community hall or Luna Park.

BWV is not our home resort (VWL is) but is by far our favorite. We get standard view whenever available. We spend very little time in the room. The view means little to us.
We have stayed in preferred view before and have found ourselves wondering what the view was supposed to be preferable to....A view of the garbage dumpsters, perhaps?
We have had boardwalk view before as well. Even though the view doesn't mean much, I must admit that was pretty cool.

Overall, there are very few villas at BWV that have a bad view. As others have said, standard view is looking at the front entrance. Perferred is overlooking the main pool, quiet pool, waterway to MGM, and the Village Green. Then there is the boardwalk view, which is incredible. We have had very few villas at BWV where we did not like the view, and we have stayed at BWV more times than I can count. We absolutely love the boardwalk view villas. We get them whenever possible.
Since pts are not a consideration I would try for a villa in the following order:
Perferred view- boardwalk (Must be booked ahead, they are guaranteed views)
Preferred view-Village Green
Preferred view-quiet pool/Community Hall
Preferred view--main pool
Standard view--down near the tennis courts. It is a walk from the elevators but worth the view and seclusion.
Some people think that Boardwalk view is noisy at night. We have never had this problem, but we are also night owls when at WDW.
Good luck and have a great trip!

IMHO BWV have some of the best views in all of Disney.

What is the Village Green at BWV?

Its the rooms that are over the Wyland Gallery (or whatever the Dolphin Art Store is called). They face the Boardwalk in, but are close enough to the BW itself to get its flavor.

The Village Green is the name of the lawn that is in front of the BW Lobby. It is bordered by the Boardwalk Lobby, the BWI wing, the BWV wing (which includes the Wyland Gallery mentioned by crisi) and the Boat Dock on Crescent Lake. It's a nice view - but the location can get noisy - depending on how many BWI/BWV guests decide to spend the evening at JellyRolls. Sometimes, those who frequent JellyRolls temporarily "forget" how to walk quietly. ;) :)

Best wishes -

Do you know how many floors the BWV have? We have a 6 night stay booked in Oct. Preferred View. What room location should I request?

There are 5 floors. The lobby is on the 2nd floor. Boardwalk and the pool are on the Ist floor.

Here's some pics of our preferred view .. quiet pool area. The room number was 4201
