I am a current member and considering doing an add on of 180 pts at BWV. period.
So my main question is which is the best route to go, via DVC or resale?

With that I have a few other questions that I would hope somone here has and idea on.

If I buy 180 BWV pts with an OCT use year from DVC right now would I be able to get 180 now (july 08), and then another 180 in Oct of 08?

Right now I do want to be able to book BWV at the 11 month mark, but is that idea getting in the way of getting a better deal with the new DVC's (SSR/AKV)?

What have been the going rates for add ons/ resale? I think DVC is charging $106 per pt with no closing costs??? and the going rate on resales via others is btwn $85-$89 per pt with $600 in closing costs??? Does all that sound right?

What else do I have to take into consideration?

Thanks in advance to all you DVC experts out there, I know you all will have lots of great info for me!!!!:worship:

If available you'd get 07 points. For the more popular, older resorts, 07 points aren't always available. ( I couldn't get them for my June UY BWV when I tried in March ) Occasionally you have to waitlist points from Disney, they may not be available in your UY.

I ended up doing my add on through resale. I paid $85pp, with all 07s banked and all points foreward. I paid 400ish closing costs, and still ended up saving around 10 PP, PLUS the 07 points that Disney didn't have available.

It depends on how quickly you need the points. Going resale can be a PIA.

Thanks, I figured someone had done this. I hear you on the resale PIA thing, I kind of was wishing that it was not that much cheaper doing resale so that I could justify to myself going via disney.
I'm thinking I will still ask and see if they have any Oct YR availible and go from there...
anyone else have any great ideas??:confused3

hi,

I was very unsure about buying resale. Buying our first contract through Disney was simple and fast. When we wanted to buy again I talked with our guide and waited and waited and then waited some more. I will confess that I have never seen patience as a virtue so the waiting might not bother others as much as it bothers me.

The waiting finally drove me to resale:eek: I had visions of our money winding up in some bank in the Grand Caymans never to be seen again unless I walked by the bank some day and looked in the window.:sad2:

The Timeshare Store had the contract I wanted so I took the plunge. Much to my suprise everything has gone very smoothly. In fact we purchased another contract from TTS this morning.

The fact that it is easier to buy through Disney doesn't mean much when they don't have what you want.

Buying resale is more involved and takes longer than buying from Disney but the fact that we bought another contract from The Timeshare Store demonstrates our satisfaction with them. Jerry Syndow and all the folks at TTS and Nancy Kirsch and the people at Timeshare Closing Services have been very helpful and return calls and emails MUCH faster than our Disney guide.

We were in no hurry, so we ran the numbers and went resale. I kept calling the three or four major DVC brokers and found what we wanted within a week. The seller's agreed to the terms we wanted, and two contracts had prior year's points and the other had two previous years' points.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy resale again. Resale takes 2 - 2 1/2 months once an offer is accepted by the seller, and with DVC, you can use your points immediately if they have what you want available. Just depends on what your needs are.

Best of luck!!! :thumbsup2

With a purchase directly from Disney, you would be assured of getting an add-on with the same use year as your current contract (unless you wanted a completely new contract). With a resale, you might or might not be able to have an add-on to your contract and might have a totally separate second contract. That would mean transferring points between the two contracts if you only had a few points left and needed more to make a full night.

Thanks for all the great info so far. I still am unsure on which would be a better way to go.
I think I need to talked with both my guide and a few resale folks and see whats out there...
If anyone else has any great ideas I would love to hear them!!:thumbsup2

Does anyone know what the current financing offerers direct from Disney are? We are trying to decide whether it makes more sense to get a loan from my credit union, charge the points to our Disney Visa for hte points, and then pay it off immediately with the cash from the credit union loan, or get the financing direct from Disney. We are looking for a 5 year loan. Thanks.
