Hi to all!!
I was not able to get a standard view at BWV and ended up going with the preferred view.
Does this mean I will get a boardwalk view.
Is it safe to assume.

We will be checking in early on a Sat. for one week
Many thanks.

It's been estimated that rooms with a view of the Boardwalk make up about 20% of the rooms at BWV, so no it is not safe to assume that you will get a view of the Boardwalk, just because you have a preferred view room.

Preferred view rooms could have a view of the Boardwalk, the canal & Swan/Dolphin Hotels, Luna Park (main pool) or the quiet pool/Community Hall building. Some of the latter view also have a view of the Tower of Terror (from MGM) and the fireworks from Fantasmic.

Your room assignment will depend on when you called to make the reservation (priority is given to those who reserved first) and the number of rooms that meet your requests that are actually vacant on the day you check in. Since you are checking in on Saturday, you may have a better chance than those who check in on Sunday (which is the most popular day for members to start their DVC vacations).

Good luck!

No DO NOT assume that! A preferred view simply means its not over the parking lot. It COULD be the pool, the Boardwalk or at the end of the freaking hallway overlooking the roof of some maintenance building. We just had that experience last January and were pretty shocked this was considered preferred view.

There is no guarantee of a Boardwalk view - the best you can do is request it when you make the reservation. But to answer your question - not it does not mean you will definitely get a BW view!

Just bare in mind and be prepared that all preferred views are exactly great. We've had a pool view twice before and that was fine and I understand that someone has to be in the room at the end of the hall - better us - who don't really care that much and can walk without trouble (we laughed at it mainly).

Please let me clarify, I thought the huge points difference meant BW view.
Well, I refuse to have any preconceived idea of what room we will get.
I’m going to Disney!!!!!
I have spent some time on the trip report board.
It seems that A LOT of people will let the out come of their vacation
hinge on one little thing or two that they don’t consider as “Perfect”.
People whin about waiting 10 minutes to long, A CM don’t smiling bright enough @ them.
Whining that PS won’t guarantee them a window table
STOP WHINING!!!!!!....breathe, breathe Kim
Sorry about the rant folks....Got totally sidetracked.
My point:
Your at Disney.
Sooooo many of us would give our (I’m not sure what, everyone is different) just to be @ WDW.
I requested the following:
non-smoking due to medical
near elevator
fireworks from balcony.
I put them in that order as to what was important to us.
Besides the smoking thing, anything will be great.
Thanks!

With that attitude your almost guaranteed to have a great vacation! I couldn't agree with you more about some peoples expectations baring a negative result on their vacations.

Like I said we mostly laughed about our room last January - it got to be pretty funny when we would go back to the room and the halls just kept growing! And someone has to stay there - so I'm thankful it was us as we could handle the walk!

As far as the point difference for standard view and boardwalk view I don't recall what the difference actually is, but I think most of the preferred views - while not BW aren't too bad. We always enjoyed our Luna Park view.

What fireworks were you requesting? BWV is on the other side and I'm not sure you can see Illuminations from BWV. You may be able to see some of the Fantasmic fireworks, but I don't recall if we saw any or tried to.

Hope you have a great trip!

You know, I was just looking at the view thing today, because we are thinking of going this year, and were thinking of staying at the BWV.

The point difference between the standard and preferred view is pretty significant. I must say, a few years ago we stayed at the BWV in a standard view, and I thought it was a great room. We had a view of the front entrance/valet area. I found it very interesting to sit on the balcony and watch all the activity. At night, the lights all around the entrance were very pretty as well.

I don't think I'd ever pay extra for view at the BWV, unless it was the only thing available and I really wanted to stay there, or it was a REALLY special occasion.

I'm cheap and I have always loved my Standard view....we did just have friends rent points )preferred view) and end up with a walk out at the main pool...DH said he would pay the extra points if he could always be guaranteed that view otherwise I'll stick with my standard points...

Good luck with your view...

Personally I think that the best preferred view and the only ones worth the extra points are first floor, quiet pool view. It is great to have access to the pool, Community Hall, the path to MGM and the around the corner access to Luna Park. We have always resevered standard view but once had this and will always ask for this in the future if we get a preferred view room.

I've loved the standard views we had the past 2 years. Have a view of the fireworks from Illuminations and you can even hear the music! Request an upper floor across from the bus stop.

Don't think of it as an upgrade from standared view rather think of the standard view as a discounted room much like the secret port hole cabins on DCL.

When we booked at BWV in 2001 on points we were told we had to use more points and get preferred view. When we got to our room we looked out onto another roof and some flower area. I asked the desk if this was preferred and he said yes. I did not have a pool, water, boardwalk or any lovely view. When I returned home, I call member services and told then about this and they called back and refunded those extra points that I used. ( I was also almost the last room in that very long corridor and I asked to be near the elevator)! I love OKW and never really care waht area I'm in there. I'm trying BCV this trip and only requested non-smoking.
