So when we were there in 2003 I dont remember there being any internet access other then dialup.

Has this changed? It would be really great to upload pictures and trip reports for the family and boards when we get back to the hotel at night..

What are my options at the BWV :)

Broadband is available for $9.95 per 24-hour period. If you forget to bring a patch cable, call housekeeping and they can deliver one to the room.

High speed internet access is available. I believe it is about $9.95 per 24 hour period. In many areas of the hotel you can also connect to a secure wireless network. Not sure of the cost of that.

HBC

Allearsnet says that wireless is also $9.95 per 24 hrs, but I thought I had read $12.95 elsewhere. Should be somewhere between the two. ;)

At the Boardwalk, they have wireless in the lobby, main pool, convention center and Concierge lounge. No wireless in the room.

If you want both the hard-wired connection in the room and the wireless outside, you pay twice.

Ick.. I guess that will have to do.. 10$ for 24 hours seems like a rip to me.. but ohh well :)

So many hotels provide free wireless access these days I was hoping Disney would. Heck even Red Roof Inns have free wireless now.

Disney serves such a captive market that they can afford to charge such fees to those who need (or just really, really want) the service. Actually Disney outsourced the service. They ran the cabling, signed a contract, and now sit back and collect the dough.

I had kinda hoped that free service would be a DVC member perk, but so far no dice.

My DH used the HSIA at BWV in February. It was $9.95 for a 24hour period. He had some difficulty but it was resolved quickly :badpc: . There are on site suport staff.

I use dialup, it isn't that bad. Unless you are downloading or uploading large files or pictures, it doesn't make a big difference. It seems too expensive to me.

Right now I'm in the St Paul Hotel in St Paul MN on free high speed internet! There was an ethernet cord in the desk drawer, the connection and a plug is in the lamp base.

I dont have any dialup accounts as I have broadband at home. need my high speed :) Guess Im trapped paying :)

You might want to ask your ISP about dial-up access. I have DSL service through SBC, and they provide free nationwide dial-up as part of the package. I used it over our last trip and I agree with DebbieB--it really isn't that bad as long as you aren't uploading / downloading a lot of large files. Photos that have been scaled-down for web posting should be no problem.

If you're worried about photos, I copied mine to the laptop and assumed either the PC or the camera would survive the trip. You can also have CDs burned at WDW now for about $10-15.

I have a wireless card in my computer and I was able to use the wireless network from Big River. It popped up on my computer as an available network. I actually only tried it on my last day. It worked fine, and I was not charged for it. There may be no security on it though. I was hesitant to use it and had just used dial up for the rest of the time.
