When do I provide a credit card for on board purchases?

I plan to buy onboard credit using Disney gift cards prior to the cruise- I assume it will use that first before charging our card?

Yes, OBC will be charged first before actually doing a charge to your credit card backing the account.

You supply a credit card during online Check-In.
You can then stop by Guest Services and pay for outstanding charges during your cruise with gift cards

You can also use gift cards to purchase OBC beforehand. It's in the same area on the site/app where you purchase other amenities for the room

If you're buying multiple gift cards, it's easier for everyone involved if you use disneygiftcard.com to combine them into as few as possible. You can have up to $1000 per card.

IIRC, you can also get a summary of your charges on the Navigator app, just in case you're wondering if you've spent too much.

You can use a Disney Rewards card to purchase onboard credit before the cruise, either by calling DCL or through Onboard Gifts on the website and app.

I’m wondering also, the line for GS is so long unless you go late at night.

I haven't waited long at Guest Services when I go during dinner/show time or shortly after reboarding on a port day. I typically wait until I'm sure I have or soon will charge an amount at least equal to the balance on my gift card and/or Disney Rewards card, then bring the card(s) to Guest Services to have the value applied to my account. Even one time when my credit card had already been charged mid-cruise, the cast member was been able to reverse the charge and apply the gift card.

Just FYI - make sure to buy the onboard credit in advance. I wanted to add more but they close it off 2 days prior to sailing IIRC.

Yep! It's under the Onboard Gifts page, then somewhere in there you can either purchase spa credit or onboard credit.

They only appear under the "Shop by Category" dropdown menu.
