After reading the descriptions of the OKW handicap accessible studios, I've been wondering about the differences in the BWV studios.

I have a ressie for August - just me and my granddaughter. I'm not sure having an accessible unit would be a problem for us (she takes showers) so don't want to use it as a request if I don't need to.

If anyone can answer these questions for me. They are based on the descriptions of the rooms at OKW.

1. How is the bath area set up? Are there problems with the water running into the bath area?

2. How large is the counter space in the bath area? (some have said the counter space was gone and they had to use the floor?)

3. Is the refrigerator located out in the sleeping area? (some have said it was out in the sleeping area and it was noisy?)

4. Was the bed lower than a regular bed?

5. Any other differences?

Thanks for your input. I wasn't concerned until I started reading about the counter space and the refrigerator. The shower I could deal with, but the others I'm not sure.......

kathleena,

We had a HA studio at BWV for one night in March. It was Room #2048. The closet was to the right of the door as you walked in with the kitchenette right past the closet. The bar/sink area seemed shorter but that may be because the microwave was on the counter. To the left of the entry door was the bathroom. It had a sliding pocket door and as you walked thru it the bathroom sink was directly in front of you and the toilet was to the left and the roll in shower was to the right. The rest of the studio was pretty much the same. To answer your questions:

1. We didn't have any problems with the water running from the shower even though I thought we might as there was only one small drain in the shower area. It had a fold down seat which we used to put our shampoo, shower gel, etc. on and a shower curtain. It was a big shower area.

2. The counter top around the sink was similar in size but there are no drawers or storage under the sink which I missed immediately.

3. No, at least not in the HA studio we had.

4. Not that we noticed.

5. We thought it was ironic that this HA studio had an enclosed balcony overlooking Luna Park pool because if a person was in a wheelchair he/she would not have been able to look over the top of the rail.

Also, we noticed that the floor sloped down a little as you walked toward the balcony. Don't know if that had anything to do with it being HA or if it was just poorly constructed. Anyway, we thought it was odd.

Since it was just my college-age DD and I on this trip so we didn't mind having a HA studio for one night but the bathroom arrangement would have been inconvenient when we were both trying to get ready to go somewhere. In a regular studio, someone can be using the bathtub/shower while the other person can use the sink area. In the HA studio at BWV, it was all one big room.

Hope that helps!

Hi Donna

Wow! Great information and eases my mind. I think with just me and DGD that there shouldn't be an issue. As long as there is a counter with the bath sink - I never put anything in the drawers anyway so I won't miss them. And the refrigerator thing too - doesn't sound like it would be in the sleeping area. Those were the only things I thought would be inconvenient for us.

And that is weird about the balcony. I stayed in a studio looking out over the pool with the same kind of balcony so I know exactly what you mean - even I had to stand to see out over the railing.

Thanks for the great description!

Kathleena,

You're welcome. I don't know why I didn't take any pictures of it. I guess I was in too much of a hurry to get to BCV! LOL!
