BWV categories???

Hi, I was just wondering - is there a reason why there are only 2 point categories for BWV??

It just seems strange to me that there is just standard and preferred. If the Boardwalk always 'sell out' before the rest of the preferred rooms, why don't they have a 3rd tier??

Are they not allowed to change it now, or is that something that could happen in the future?? (I was just wondering as I am thinking of adding points at BWV - specifically for a boardwalk view and wondered if this change could possibly ever happen??):confused3

thanks for any info!!:thumbsup2

Boardwalk views are guaranteed when you make a reservation. BWV was originally 1 category, early on the split out the standards for less points. There were alot of complaints regarding how the boardwalk views were assigned. In 2003, because of a new room assignment system they implemented ("room ready"), they decided to guarantee the boardwalk views but did not change the point structure. I'm surprised that they did not break it out when they reallocated the points chart for 2010, that was their chance.

thanks for the reply Debbie!!:thumbsup2 I am surprised too, of course I am pleased that boardwalk views don't cost more, but can't see me wanting a pool view & spending the same amount of points on what I consider is a 'lesser' view. But that may well just be me I suppose!!:thumbsup2

It actually kinda irks me that I am spending the same amount of points for a 'preferred' view as a boardwalk view. We have always been able to get a standard view, but they go just as quickly (or quicker?) as the bw view rooms do. I think they should have 3 categories and the point structure should be changed accordingly.

yes that makes sense to me too!! :thumbsup2(Thats one of the things I like about AKV - all the different point options - at least that way you feel like you get what you 'pay' for!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2)

I think Disney made the split between preferred and standard view very eaarly on, and then like someone said...made Boardwalk View a bookable catgeory much later.

NO!!! PLEASE! Do not raise the point requirements for Boardwalk Views!!

Dh and I bought Boardwalk Villas to be able to stay with a boardwalk view. We have a very small contract (100 points), but can still scrimp and save our points to have a boardwalk view.

We bought our points believing that Disney could re-allocate the points by season or day, but they could not re-allocate the boardwalk views for them to be out of our price range.

This reallocation would force us to either stay in standard views, or deal with the preferred "pool" rooms.

IMHO, such a re-allocation would be beyond our expectations as owners, unlike the simple point re-allocations done for 2010.

you're right I'd hate to see the Boardwalk go even higher :scared1:- and to split them into 3 categories that would have to happen, so that they could make the point table add up. (eg if they reduce the cost of the other preferred views, then the boardwalk view would have to pick up the 'slack') - so I guess I don't want that to happen either.

For us, it will mean we will just HAVE to add on at BWV! :lmao:- as I certainly don't want to pay premium points for a non-boardwalk view, and as a non-owner that looks like all I would be left with, as it seems that the std and boardwalk views are snapped up before the 7mth mark for the Oct dates we would want to go.

I am still toying with adding on at BCV for SAB, but I do love a great view and the boardwalk is a GREAT view imho!!:cloud9:

I don't think they are able to change the charts to make BW view cost more and the rest of the PV cost less even if they want to change it. That's because of the technical definition of "unit" in the POS.

The POS says that the number of points required to reserve a "unit" for the entire year cannot change. A unit at the BWV is a group of rooms. Not all the units are the same. For example, what if some units are all BW view rooms or all PV rooms? How would they satisfy the POS? Think about it. Of course, this is just my opinion.

When they made the change to standard view, they did it before the resort was sold out. I believe they actually reduced the number of points they planned to sell to make that change work.

Even if they did make the BW view rooms cost more, I don't think it would make much difference to the cost of the PV because there are so many more of those than there are BW view rooms.

I like that owners have at least one perk for those higher dues - if owners reserve at 11 months, they can almost always get SV or BW view. It's very, very hard to get either if you can't book until 7 months.

Thank you for your post Carol - very interesting!!:thumbsup2

And I think your last paragraph sums up why I suspect I will eventually add on at BWV rather than BCV - I just gotta have that BW view!!:goodvibes

I think they should have a scary clown view category.

And I suppose you think they should actually pay people to stay in those rooms, right? :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Or maybe they could go for a very high premium on Halloween! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

The thing that surprised me about the 2010 allocation was that they reallocated points among the room sizes. Grand Villas went down, Studios went up. I thought too that the total "units" could not change, but I think they did.

I swear you must have ESP... I almost wrote both those things in my post!!

As Werner Weiss would say- The clown should be turned around so the kids would slide INTO the mouth... :scared1:

I'm so glad I have a standard view studio booked for my Halloween stay and that DVC isn't known for upgrades!
