Can anyone recommend area to request for visit in just 2 weeks? Also someone said there was a place to see a map with each area noted in different colors - where can I find this map? This is our first time staying at the Boardwalk and the place we have really wanted to stay.

I have read some comments that say the resort has not been kept up very well and wondered if there is an area that is better than others.

It's the best view in WDW!

Enjoy it....We always ask for a high floor, in The Crest of the Wave area.
That's where Samantha Brown stayed when she did the Travel Channel Christmas special. The view is fantastic!

Have a wonderful trip!!!:)

Any Boardwalk view is pretty good. We have stayed at several and we liked them all.

For those who may not know -

The rooms overlooking the Boardwalk itself (Blue line on the map) are a separate booking category. Your confirmation letter will say "Boardwalk View" if you are booked into that category. In other words, Boardwalk view is not a request.

If your Preferred View reservation does not say Boardwalk view, then you have a Pool & Garden room (Red line on the map).

PV (Boardwalk View) rooms are the same number of points as the Preferred View( Pool & Garden) rooms. The BW view rooms almost always book up before the 7 month window opens. But sometimes, you can get lucky! :)

Thanks

The reservation does say Boardwalk View so I can now make a request - and I know it is a request - for an upper floor - who do I make that request through?

You call Member Services to add a request to your reservation.

The general rule for the Boardwalk - high floor far from the elevators offer some of the best views (in both Boardwalk and Preferred views) but are less convienent than low floor close to the elevator (lower floors its easier to take the stairs, close the the elevator is more convienent to the lobby and theme pool). With kids, I happen to like lower floors and more convienent to the theme pool (although the Boardwalk View rooms are all more convienent to the theme pool than the community pool - high floors can be a hike up the stairs.)

Is there a walkway from the parking lot, that would take you to the far left of the building? Then we could walk outside instead of the building instead of the long corridors inside??

There is a door on the ground level near the corner where the standard view BWV (green line on the map) makes a turn. It is definitely a short cut if you are in that section of the building. No elevator there, however, so be prepared to use stairs to your floor.
