We are traveling to WDW with my elderly parents (their first visit) next March. They have some mobility issues and prefer the walk in shower/bars by the toilet etc, so I’ve booked us a two-bedroom Boardwalk view accessible unit (as far as I could tell, we didn’t have the option of booking an accessible studio and regular one bedroom unless I wanted to book them separately). I think they will be more comfortable there, and who knows what additional needs they may have 7 months from now, so probably the best choice. However, I’ve never stayed in an accessible unit before. For those who have stayed in the one bedroom accessible units at BWV, is it very different? Also, as far as I can tell from google, there may only be one accessible “Boardwalk view” unit and the one review that I could find was rather scathing re the view. Apparently it is a solid wood balcony rail and the view is significantly obstructed. Does anyone have any experience with the solid balcony rail in Boardwalk View rooms?

I've stayed at the BWV accessible GV twice. A couple of observations:
•Light switches are lower on the wall.
•The microwave is located on the countertop, not above the stove.
•The controls for the stove are in front of the burners, not on a panel in the back of the cooktop.
•Countertops are lower in most places, the exception being above the dishwasher and that is where the microwave sits.
•There are spaces below the sinks (kitchen and baths) to be able to roll a wheelchair right up to them.
•There are grab bars by the toilet and it sits just a bit higher.
•The mirror over the bathroom sink sits lower and appeared angled just a bit.
•The roll-in shower had hand wands and a fold-down shower seat.
•Doors to bedrooms were slightly wider than you would find in a regular room.

As for the solid wall balcony, I had a studio a few years ago which had one. You cannot see anything unless you stand up. If you're seated, you see the wall and sky above it.

I believe it's the first boardwalk view unit, 2nd floor, right over the Screen Door so yes it's a solid wall and you'd need to be standing to see anything.

are the HA units near the elevator or do you still need to deal with the long halls?

As far as Boardwalk view goes, that is the first room in that category so there is no closer boardwalk view room to elevators (you still have to go by all the rooms on the Green) . I am not sure where the standard view HA rooms are located.

We have stayed in the Boardwalk view 1BR. As mentioned it is above the Screen door and has the solid balcony wall. You do need to stand to look down at the boardwalk. On the other hand it is a large balcony.
The HA rooms themselves have a bit lower counters and the microwave will be on the counter instead of over the stove. The shower is roll in and had a shower curtain and rubber bumper on the floor to try and keep the water in. Light switches are a little lower than average. There is no water closet - the toilet is in the room with the shower to allow easier access. I do have pictures somewhere but wasn't able to locate them however if you search on my name for BWV HA you might find them as I know I have posted of both that room as well as a pool/garden view accessible.

We have stayed in a 2 BR standard view with roll in shower. That location was just off the elevator. We had a nice view of the pool and bar area. The roll in shower had a pull down bench. Was very surprised by the location considering it is standard category. I believe we had this room on both the 2nd and 1st floor on different trips. The sink area was open to roll up to and be able to reach the faucets. Microwave was on the counter. There was a large coffee table that caused mobility issues so someone came to our room and removed it. We always request the first or second floor in case of an emergency in the building and elevators aren’t in use we are not dependent on the stairs. I freak out about that stuff lol. Boardwalk has always been accommodating with our accessibility needs.
