I have looked twice at the numbers and it appears that the total number of points is increasing for BWV from the 2019 numbers. I have not counted up the number of days in each season so that may be the answer. Has anyone counted to know if they changed the number of days in each season or specifically run the numbers for BWV? I have searched and haven't found any.

Thanks

Search the thread about a lawsuit. The info is there. They’ve increased the lock-off premium.

Apparently the total number of points in a resort can change. Not what many were led to believe.

Legally the total number of points can't, and didn't, change. However, the numbers are based off of all lock-offs being counted as 2 bedrooms. The lock-off premium can change because it is still only counted as though it were a 2 bedroom so leaving the cost of it being booked as a 2 BR alone means that officially the number hasn't changed. So they could increase the studio and 1 bedroom portion of lock-offs but leave the 2 BR points alone and that would not be considered an increase. A resort with a few dedicated studios only has to offset the total point change of the dedicated studios with a decrease elsewhere, not the total change of all studios.

According to my understanding of this post, relative to SSR, the number of points has changed.

The total as counted by all lock offs being rented as 2 bedrooms hasn't changed and that is how it is calculated. There has always been a lock off premium which, if all units were booked as studio and 1 bedrooms separately, would equal to a greater number of points than was sold. That premium has increased.

I just did this today for BCV and OKW (I used BCV and OKW because there are no views involved). Taking the 2019 points charts and applying each day to the number of dedicated studios, dedicated 1 BR and all 2 BRs. For BCV I get a total of 3,027,700 points for the entire year. Doing the same for 2020, I get a total of 3,036,704 points. This is 9,404 point more for 2020, however there are 366 days in 2020 vs 365 days in 2019. For OKW, the total number of points for 2019 is 7,662,600 and for 2020 the points are 7,704,945 for an increase of 42345. The increase is more for OKW, due to the number of rooms vs BC.

To me, these two resorts appear to be balanced from one year to the next.

I didn't do any resorts with views because finding the information regarding views is not as easy to obtain.

I would assume that for resorts where there are both dedicated and lock-off studios and 1 BRs, the 'premium' is more dictated by the point cost of the dedicated studios and 1 BRs. For resorts like OKW, I would think that they would try to align the 'premium' with the other resorts. It still isn't fun to find out that your points cannot cover what they used to, but I question this whole idea that what was done is not legitimate.

The number of points can change and go up and have. It’s ridiculous to suggest othewise. The majority of customer book studios and one beds. So their points went up, quite a bit. Just because DVC uses a method of counting which means that these are not included, does not mean the points have not gone up for the customers.

The numbers for BCV using the same UY comes out to an increase of less than 3500 points (about 0.12%) if you count all studios and 1BR lock-offs as 2BR lock-offs (which is how the points are supposed to be calculated).

However, when you assume that the 2BR Lock-offs are rented out as studios and 1BR (admittedly this won't be 100% true -- but it is likely a decent approximation to make a point), then the points go from needing 3,219,058 in 2019 to 3,282,118 in 2020.

This means that the lock-off premium was INCREASED an additional 63,000 points. And those points get rented out by Disney on the cash side at prices well over $20 a point (sometimes as high as $42 a point). That is a lot of cash going into the DVC coffers that is not shared with the membership.

What's somewhat interesting in all of this, Disney is ALREADY in 2019 getting about 250,000 extra points via the lock-off premium. So they just increased it by about 33%.

You are absolutely right that the lock-off premium has gone up. In a way their hands are tied, if they raise dedicated studios and 1 bedrooms, then they have to increase the lock-off studios and 1 bedrooms by the same amount, this ensures that all rooms have the same point cost. For resorts with a combination of dedicated and non-dedicated rooms, the increase of the the lock-off premium is inevitable.

So, while the reallocation may be 'legal' based on the POS, the affect on members is very unfortunate. This doesn't have a large impact on us currently, because the size of our family. In the future, we will probably see us using smaller rooms and this will affect us, so I feel bad for those who are adversely affected.

It would be nice if they could provide us some data to justify their decisions (there may be a valid reason) but without that, it is hard accept this as something that is necessary.

DVC is getting so large that is it kind of becoming unmanageable. My prediction as DVC grows, these type of events are going to become more frequent and more severe. It will benefit some members, and will hurt others.

For those who are negatively affected by this, I feel bad for you.
