Hi~
We will be flying Southwest from Louisville to Orlando for our May 29-June 7 trip. We have to connect at BWI with 40 minutes between flights.

Having never been to BWI I am nervous about it. Can someone with experience please share your thoughts? Will we make our flight?

Can you tell me what terminal Southwest uses at BWI and are the gates fairly close together? I sure don't want to be running to different concourses like we've had to do in Atlanta. That was awful...

Thank you for any and all info I really appreciate it!!

Weather shouldn't be an issue...just plan on sitting near the front so you can get off quickly. SWA usually starts boarding about 20 minutes before departure, but chances are you might get into BWI a little early, allowing for bathroom breaks.

Forty minutes is plenty of time to connect at BWI; it's nowhere near as big as Atlanta. You can get a map of the terminal at Southwest's website or BWI's website.

Thank you for the replies and the reassurance. It makes me feel much better!!

I think we can do it... :thumbsup2

BWI is super easy, walkable, and has moving sidewalks rather than a train. Imagine a U: The A terminal is one long arm while the B terminal is the other long arm. If you land at A, check the board to see what gate you need to be at. If it's A, you are pretty close. If it's B, walk towards the lower-numbered A gates, cross over (past the food court row), and down to the B gates. Or vice versa if you land at B. A few of the very lowest number gates are in the cross over across from the food court. DO NOT go down the ramps into baggage claim or or you will have to go back through security! EVerything is well marked.

Thanks Melissa... It sounds pretty simple.

We might just pull this off after all!! ;)

Connecting in BWI is truly no big deal. The gates are all pretty close together, I've made tighter connections than 40mins there easy peasy!

Going from the farthest A gate to the farthest B gate will take about 20 minutes. SWA is also using some C gates at BWI. The good news is that you don't have to go through security to get to the C gates and the walk is the same going from A to C as it is from A to B.
