I feel foolish for asking this, but here goes:

I've ridden this ride 3 times in the past, and I have been just pointing and hoping each time. I really can't seem to tell what i'm doing. Does some sort of beam actually come out? If so, what does it look like? I'm partially red/green color blind, but only in one eye, and only partially, so i don't know if this is contributing to my confusion. i guess i'm asking "how does one aim?"

thx,
dj

It's hard to aim with the guns, but if you bend down, and using just one eye, look out over the top of the gun, you can get a feel for the aim.

There is a spot of light you can see when you hit something, but a.) it's red, so I think you might have difficulty, and b.) there are SO many anyway that it's hard to know which is yours.

Thanks. I'm going to try what you said - but i'm not sure it's going to be any better!

thanks again!

You can actually see a small red laser dot on the target (but only if you look REALLY hard)! However, we just had fun and didn't really worry about it!

I can't do aim at all, either. I don't feel like i'm doing anything, I usually get one or two hits. -Steph

I'm so glad you posted this, because I feel the same way. I just usually don't ride this anymore, and my boys (with DH) will ride it while I go on the TTA! I just wasn't enjoying it at all and reminded me of a big video game. I rode it once just to take pictures of the kids enjoying it, that was fun. But as far as me doing the gun thing, nope, just not for me. :D

I just point and shoot. I always have done very badly in the past. But on 11/30 I must have hit something really, really good 'cause I got a terrific score!!! Don't think I'll ever be able to repeat it since I have no idea what it was that I hit. Pointing and shooting is the only way I can do it.

If you are red/green color blind, that may be the problem. The beam comes out and makes a red dot on whatever you are aiming at. Since you cannot see red well, that could be why you aren't seeing it.

BTW, it is not a silly question!:)

I can never tell if it's my red dot or the person sitting next to me.

You might try facing the wall in the room where you get 'control' of your ship and shooting there to find your dot and practise aiming a little.

Also, you can just hold the trigger down all the time and it shoots regularly, but you have to make sure that you've pulled it back far enough to register. About halfway through I ususally get too tired to keep it going nonstop...

I read that you get the most points from the furthest moving targets... and the ones "behind" you- don't forget, you can spin your seat around!! My sister got all 9's once but she has no idea how!

Good luck!

Yes it is a red dot. Here is a way to help. Always aim for the back targets. I read that you get more points and this seems to be true. Last time I went I could not tell my beam either , but by aiming in the back very few other people would as I was able to be able to adjust my aim. Everyone always aims for the easy targets in front and nobody can tell whose is whose. Good luck hope it helps :rockband:

An easy way to see the red beam it to hold you hand in front of you gun and pull the trigger. You will see the beam in your hand.

I thought I was the only one who had no clue where I was shooting! thanks for posting this. I see so many red dots I don't know if it's mine or not.

I know there's a website that had the ride pictures and hints of where to hit for point scores... now its not on the computer I'm using, but surely someone other than me saved it!!

OK, for highest points:

Unofficial guides says DON'T keep trigger constantly depressed
Birnbaum says DO!

Which is it?!?

I've tried it both ways, and I generally prefer to NOT keep the trigger depressed. I feel like I get more points if I don't.

I think a lot may depend on your gun. Some of those cars are falling into disrepair, and that may factor into it.

I've tried both ways and I like keeping the trigger depressed. That's the only way I can score multiple times on the volcano.

Hint: hitting the volcano gets you 50,000 pts. Hit it from the start of the room till you leave the room, I can usually get 5-6 good shots on it.

Would you believe i hit 999,999? well, i did! but i'm pretty sure something was wrong with the machine....

also, on that same ride, we got stuck a lot. i was by myself in the ship, so after i max-ed out on ont gun, i switched to the other and got it up to 645,000. it sure helped to be stuck in a room!

the volcano was the best tip (maybe because it was the only one i could remember).

turns out i CAN see the little red light. i guess i couldn't before because it wasn't hitting what i was aiming at! i did the thing where you shoot into your hand to see where the beam comes from. that helped a lot.

great fun!!!!! thanks everyone for all your tips!!!
