Buzz$BCT(B 23rd Birthday
Ahhhhh, a nice day to sleep in. This is a vacation after all, so I guess we are allowed to sleep in for one morning. The phone does interrupt our sleep around 7 as Buzz$BCT(B father and brother called to wish him a happy birthday before they headed off to work (hehe). We roll over and are back to sleep before we finally get going around 9:30. We both need to take showers this morning since Woody was too tired to take one last night, and don$BCU(B actually get out the door until 10:30. This is Buzz$BCT(B day to choose what to do (with only some suggestions from Woody).
Buzz loves breakfast food, so we stop at the food court and order breakfast platters. I order pancakes and bacon, while Buzz gets French Toast and sausage and a large orange juice ($14). After enjoying our breakfast, we head towards Downtown Disney and wait about 10 minutes for a bus. We arrived at West Side around 11:30 and headed towards the massive and intimidating structure known as Disney Quest.
Buzz really likes video games, so I thought this would be a nice and relaxing place for him to spend his birthday. We both played some kind of Pinball game where you jump around on these pods and a Buzz Lightyear asteroid game where you drive a car-thing and shoot asteroids at other cars. Both were pretty neat. We also played some of the older arcade games that we remembered from when were little. I did notice though that these games moved much faster and the controls were very loose, so it was hard to play the game. Disney probably did this to keep people from tying up the machines for too long, but it did prove to be very frustrating.
Of all the people we encountered throughout our vacation, the worst behavior was exhibited at Disney Quest. Mainly, people would play game after game on a machine even though they knew other people were waiting. But the most appalling example was when Buzz and I got in line to do the asteroid shooting game again (Buzz wanted to prove that it was me and not the car that couldn$BCU(B drive). Well, we waited about ten minutes and as the CM was lining people up to go in the cars, these three kids in front of us kept yelling at their parents to hurry up. Their parents were over playing another game while the kids waited in line.
Right as the attendant got to the kids, the parents jumped into the line. Well, two people go to a car, so two kids got a car, then one kid and a parent, and then the other parent got one to himself (which was the last one). I was livid. We would have to wait another 10 minutes because of this. So I told the CM that I didn$BCU(B think it was fair that the parents could be off playing a game while the kids waited in line. I had no problem with the one parent going with the little kid since he needed an extra person, but the other parent should have sat out since they made the decision to play the other game. Who is to say that Buzz couldn$BCU(B have gone off and played a game and then jumped in at the last minute? The CMs both agreed with me but didn$BCU(B know what to do (this guy was rather large). But he angrily pulled his whole family out of line and said they would wait for the next one. He said, $BE*(B hope you are happy$B!&(B and I said $BE.(Baybe this will teach you what common courtesy is$B!&(B I know that I might have over reacted, but I couldn$BCU(B stand it! Everyone else could have done the same thing, but all patiently waited in line because that is the right thing to do. No wonder some children behave as they do, usually their parents act worse than they do.
Anyways, I will come down off my soap box now. Buzz played some games in the score zone, then we did the Aladdin ride (15 min. wait and I didn$BCU(B really understand the game). We also did the Cyber Space Mountain thing where you design and ride your own rollercoaster, which was pretty neat (15 min. wait.). We grabbed lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, which was ok. I just had French Fries and a soda and Buzz had a Chili Cheese Dog and Fries. Our bill was about $15.
After lunch, Buzz played some football game for about an hour against a little kid who proved to be some stiff competition. They ended up tying after a hard fought battle. I was tired of the games and the crowds by then (they were really starting to build) so I found a bench and sat for about an hour. Buzz got his fill of the games by 3:45 so we left. Buzz really liked Disney Quest and would have stayed longer if it wouldn$BCU(B have gotten so crowded. Definitely go at opening, because it didn$BCU(B get busy until about 2.
I had a special dinner planned for Buzz at the Coral Reef in Epcot so we headed to the bus stop to wait for the Ticket and Transportation Center Bus. Well, those pesky transportation gods, who had been pretty good up to this point, decided that we needed to be punished. We waited about 45 minutes, and were just considering taking the next bus to an Epcot resort, when the bus showed up. I was getting slightly worried that we would miss our 5:00 PS (I knew they usually honor them if you are late, but this was Buzz$BCT(B birthday, and I wanted it to be nice).
After transferring to the monorail at the TTC and finally relaxing (just love that monorail) we made it to the Coral Reef about 15 minutes late for our PS. I mentioned to the CM that it was Buzz$BCT(B birthday, but that he doesn$BCU(B like the attention. I also asked for a table right up at the aquarium. We were seated in about 2 minutes. Buzz was very irritated, because one of his fears in life is that people are going to come out singing and clapping for him at a restaurant on his birthday (I don$BCU(B know how he is going to make it through our wedding). He was convinced that I was going to torture him on his birthday!
We were seated right at the aquarium and had a wonderful view of all the marine life. The restaurant was pretty full, but there were plenty of tables on the first level at the aquarium. It looks like you get them simply by asking, so don$BCU(B hesitate to do so! Buzz ordered yellow tailed snapper and I ordered the pan seared tuna. There wasn$BCU(B much on the menu, but the food was very good. We also ordered drinks to celebrate. I had a Reef Runner, which was delicious, and Buzz had a frozen concoction that was also very good (can$BCU(B remember the name). Our waitress offered a complimentary dessert for Buzz$BCT(B birthday, so we shared the white chocolate cheesecake (yum). She did bring it out with a candle on top, but no other fanfare, so Buzz was happy and quite pleased with his birthday dinner. Our dinner was the most expensive of the trip ($87 including a nice tip) but very nice and relaxing.
After dinner, I insisted on doing a Leave a Legacy tile. With our AAA discount, it came out to $20. I thought it would be neat to have our picture somewhere on the monuments so that we could bring our future children to see it someday. I just received a copy of our picture and its location in a nice package from Epcot on Saturday in the mail, and I can$BCU(B wait to go back and see it.
Back to the monorail to the TTC then so that we could head back to Downtown Disney. This time, we only had to wait about 5 minutes for a bus. Buzz had been using his time while waiting for FPs and PSs to walk through the shops and get ideas on what he wanted to buy for himself and others. He planned to do the bulk of his shopping tonight. He did call his mother though (who had been at work earlier when his family had called) to talk to her on his birthday.
We hit most of the shops in the Marketplace and did the bulk of our shopping. The AAA card (Diamond Card) gives you a 15% discount when you spend $25 or more in any DD store, so this helped us save a substantial amount. Buzz couldn$BCU(B find his Safari Mickey stuffed animal though, and was a little upset because he really wanted it. We considered doing Pleasure Island, but were too tired and didn$BCU(B want to lug all our purchases around, so we headed to the bus stop.
We waited about 15 minutes, and were back to the resort by 10. We both got drinks at the bar and sat by the pool to relax. I decided to take the video camera around and take pictures of the other buildings while Buzz enjoyed his drink. The next day I was punished by having the largest bites I have ever seen in my life pop up on my thigh. They were each about the size of a half dollar. They were very hard, but thankfully didn$BCU(B itch much until a few days later. Buzz also got rewarded with a ton of small bites around his ankles that itched for a few days. This was our only encounter with bug bites the whole trip! Back in the room, we were asleep by 11:30 because tomorrow was EE at the Magic Kingdom.
Happy Birthday Buzz!
