Our story:
Well, here we are, about to embark on our second trip to Walt Disney World! Those of you DISers that were around last summer may remember reading a trip report entitled
Buzz and Woodys Great Adventure. Well, if you didnt read it, you can connect to my link down below in my signature to get some background info about us. Now let me begin our journey to this years trip, Buzz and Woody Return to the World
Our story begins where else but on the plane ride home from Orlando last June. Buzz had just completed his first trip to Walt Disney World and while exhausted, he admitted that he would like to go back sometime. The key word here is sometime. To me, sometime meant as soon as possible. To Buzz, sometime meant in a few years. Anyway, guess whose definition won!
As I started my senior year of college, we planned on staying at the ASMo again in December, 2002. I really wanted to visit the world at Christmas time and Buzz wanted to go when it was cooler. We planned on the second week of December so that it would be the off season. We had gotten a decent rate at ASMo with the AAA discount, and were all set or so we thought.
Fast forward to January, 2002. I had accepted a position at an accounting firm following graduation. I was to start in September, 2002. Well, I was starting to doubt that they would let me take off a week when I had only been there two months. So, I started doing the math to see if we could possibly go during the summer before I started work. Some really great codes popped up here and on Mousesavers so I begged and pleaded Buzz to go during the summer. Well, the Mouse gods must have agreed with me, because within a week, I got an elusive postcard in the mail! A moderate for $84 a night! I was ecstatic; I had wanted to try a moderate. I guess Buzz took it as a sign that maybe this trip was meant to be, so he allowed me to book Port Orleans Riverside for the first week of June.
Well, planning began almost immediately. I booked Hoop Dee Doo right away to ensure good seats. I joined the Disney Club and used my discount to purchase 6 day park hopper plusses at the Disney Store during the price increase scare of mid-march. Buzz bought the plane tickets for my birthday/graduation gift. He got a decent rate of $158.50 each out of Philadelphia. I really wanted to do Cinderellas for breakfast, so I marked the 60-day mark in my calendar. I was lucky enough to secure a PS for us the first day I started calling. Things were just falling into place!
Then tragedy struck. I was down at college in early April and my parents called to say my 17-year-old brother had been killed in a car accident. Luckily he had been alone and no other cars had been involved, but it was very tragic. Our trip (and everything else) was pushed to the back burner. However, as we tried to put our lives back together and heal from this tragedy, the DISboards and planning my trip became my solace. I thank the DIS for having such a great community and fun place to visit on the web. It provided a great way to escape reality for an hour or two each day.
As time progressed, I was able to put more and more energy into trip planning. After much debate, I decided to book Tiffany Towncar to transport us to our resort rather than using Mears. I also booked a room at the Holiday Inn near Philadelphia International Airport so that we could get a good nights sleep before our early flight. With college graduation behind me (and a nice accounting degree in hand) the trip started to become a reality. On the Tuesday before we left, I rearranged our money at the bank and picked up travelers checks to pay off our room when we get there. On Wednesday, I faxed in our room requests and on Thursday I reconfirmed all our PS and Tiffany Towncar pickup. Now, all that is left to do is pack.
Well, I hope that this trip report gives you enough background on Buzz and Woodys Return to the World. Please stayed tuned for the first installment when we return
