Buying Tickets off Ebay

Has anyone ever bought passes people sell on ebay? We are going soon, however, we will only be going 2 or 3 days to disney and doing the rest of the days in Universal and Busch. As all you know, you can't get a 2 or 3 day hopper so I'm contemplating buying some off of ebay. What are your experiences and are there any ways to tell if the hopper pass still has remaining days left without having to go to disney??

I have never done this and I would not recommend it. There is no way to know the number of days remaining except to take the ticket to one of the parks and have guest services scan it. That's an awful risk. Also, I was under the impression it was illegal, but it seems to me if that were true, Disney would be contacting Eay to stop those sales. So I'm not sure. But like I said, you have no guarantee how many days are on there. Even if the seller is completely on the up and up and honest, what if they're wrong about how many days are left? I know I have a hopper that I'm pretty sure has a day left but I'm not 100% positive. That's a big risk.

I wouldn't recommend it either. You can't check to see how many days are on the tickets till you get there. I am sure you don't want to find out as you are going through the turnstiles that you don't have any days available.

I have also seen reports where the tickets are frauds and are taken away at the entrance. I wouldn't want to start my vacation that way would you?

I know multiple people who have done it multiple times, all without a problem. However, most of the time the tickets go for well more than the price at the gate. Example: recently I seen 2 adult 1 day hoppers (they were 1 day left over) go for $152.00. That is outrageous.

A better option would be to either buy the one day one park tickets. Or if hopping is necessary, then buy the 3 day hoppers (which you can get through paramount). If you have 1 day left, save it for next time, or sell them on ebay like everyone else does.

I do tons of buying and selling on ebay, but this is something I would be very skeptical of since you can't verify how many unused days are on the hopper.

I guess it depends on the auction - how is the sellers feedback? It is risky, but then again any ebay transaction could go sour.

If you are a regular eBay user with a decently high feedback rating, why not consider selling instead of buying? You have to invest the full amount up front, but you can sell the unused days when you get back. That way it is guaranteed that nobody will get ripped off, because you're the one saying how many days are left on the tickets.

As for overpaying, that does happen frequently. What I did when I sold some unused days was to say right in the description, "These tickets are worth X dollars at the gate, if the bids get to that level, I will stop the auction at that point and sell the tickets to that bidder."

However, it didn't get to that point because I also set up a Buy It Now option with a price that I thought was fair (about 20% off of the gate price for single-day tickets). They were quickly snapped up. It was a fair deal for everyone because the buyer got a discount and I got to park hop even though it was a short trip.

I think many people on this board have a fear of buying tickets on eBay that is disproportionate to the risk. (Ditto the fear of the "illegality" of the transaction.) Still, if you sell unused tickets in an ethical and fair manner, then you are not taking a risk and you are not putting anyone at risk, so I don't see a problem.

Actually, you can purchase 3 day passes. Someone recently posted a link to the WDW world site, and they there were.

Actually it is illegal to sell passes. I came across an old park hopper I had from like 1982, when they stamped the passes so it was evident that there was one day remaining. I didn't read the back (nontransferable!) and decided to put it up on ebay to see what I could get. Ebay sent me an email that said it was illegal for me to be selling the ticket and they stopped the auction. Then I felt really bad, but I can't figure out how they have auctions like this going all the time? Doesn't everyone who lists a WDW ticket get an email like I got?
And even if you could buy one, as others have posted, I wouldn't trust the newer tickets. You have absolutely no idea what exactly you are buying.

Try Ticketmania for new, unused 3-day hopper passes. They often have the tickets available, but are NOT permitted to list them on their web site due to contractual obligations to Disney. You'll have to call to see if they presently have the passes in stock.

The way some people get around that is that they sell the "envelope" and included in the envelope is the pass.

I have never done this and would not recommend it. There is just no way of knowing what you have bought and would have to rely on the seller's honesty. You could find yourself at the gats of WDW with invalid passes.
