First DVC trip, so this is the first time buying tickets not through disney. I am about to order tickets through undercover tourist.com. We are going in November. I might be going back in January to run the 5K. If I buy my ticket now, can I upgrade later on to a AP?? If so when and how?

Yes, you can upgrade anytime within 14 days of the first use of the MYW ticket.

See the information provided by Cheshire Figment (a Disney CM) on tickets and upgrades for more detailed information.

Everything About WDW Tickets

DVC APs are just another form of an AP. Everything CF says about upgrading regular APs, applies to DVC APs.

Pay particular attention to post 18C.

Be careful about which ticket you buy. If your original ticket costs more than the DVC AP you want to change to, Disney won't give a refund.

This isn't necessarily true. I've upgraded tickets twice and in both cases have received a refund on a gift card. To be safe I wouldn't rely on getting a refund as I understand this isn't a written policy, so YMMV. :thumbsup2

We too received a very small refund when upgrading to DVC AP last year. Maybe the CM was inexperienced, but it did happen twice on 2 separate occasions.

You two were lucky - Disney policy is NOT to give refunds in those situations.

First off, loooovvve Undercover Tourist! Great company...but be careful when you go to Disney's customer relations.....One manager (in MK) told me that they couldn't do anything to upgrade me since I bought them elsewhere...After 30 min of discussing and a ruined evening, I gave up, and went "home".... The next day, at Epcot, decided to discuss with customer relations, they were awesome and upgraded us with no issues. Just realize, if someone is horrible (I know, in Disney?????) just walk away and get another rep. to upgrade you. Have a great time!
