Buying THIS WEEK - more questions for ya!

Thanks for everyone's help and patience the last few days in answering all our questions. We've made the decision we are definitely buying!! Now, the hard part.

What we want to do is get 150 points in VWL and 250 in BWV. We're looking at a few options and have a few questions. Most likely scenario is to buy the 150 VWL through Disney and the 250 BWV resale (Jaki at atimeshare.com has a very attractive one with points banked that she's holding for us). Our other option is to buy the 150 VWL with Disney and get on a waiting list for the 250 BWV points with them.

So, my questions:
1. Can you transfer points from one property to another permanently? For instance, if we bought 400 points at VWL, got on the waiting list for BWV, could they just "move" the 250 points from VWL to BWV when it became available? I'm guessing no, but want to make sure.

2. Those of you who have waitlisted for BWV - how long does it usually take? If it's going to be several months, we'd rather just buy resale and have the points in hand. If it's quick, it may be easier to do the transaction all in one place.

We're going to make some calls tomorrow and get resale financing lined up just in case, but the answers to these questions could change whether we buy resale or just get it all through Disney. With the MB buyback, they're essentially the same price.

I'm afraid that each contract is separate and cannot be combined or "transferred" to another resort. The good news is it sounds like you are getting two contracts, each of which is a good selling size. 400 point contracts are a little tougher to sell. Also, with two contracts you can sell one and still have points....can't do that with one contract.

Waitlist for 250 BWV points? I'm not a waitlist expert but I don't think you'll see that many points show up. Others are already on the wait list, and from what I see on this board, the points seem to come in much smaller increments. Again, I'm no expert on this subject.

I think the BWV 250 points would be best obtained through resale.

Granny pretty much said it.

1. No, you can't do this. Remember, you aren't just buying 'points', but actually a real estate interest in the resort. This is deeded property. You can't just change your ownership from one resort to another.

2. Very, Very, Very doubtful you would get a BWV 250 point contract through Disney. BWV has been sold out for quite awhile now. I would think that anyone who bought there has now put enough investment into their purchase, that if they had a problem, they would try to sell their interest through a resale broker, rather than just letting it revert to Disney for non-payment. Your best bet is to definitely go resale. You would probably wind up waiting a long time for a Disney 250 point BWV sale, maybe forever.

If you have a hold on a BWV 250 point contract, I would take that and get the VWL from Disney. Especially since the resale has banked points.

If you do buy one BWV resale and one VWL contract from Disney, try to get them both with the same use year. It makes a big difference in the "headache" factor in using (combining) and keeping track of your points.

Since, you already have a resale in mind, when you buy from Disney, ask if you can get that same use year. Usually you can be accomodated depending on when you buy and what use year you want.

If this resale falls through, buy from Disney and then look for a resale with the same use year. IMO, it is worth a little more $$ for a resale with the same use year. (Not a lot of $$ of course - if you find a GREAT resale deal - take the $$ and run!!)

Since, you seem to be buying both at the same time, it shouldn't be too hard to get one use year to match the other.

Thanks again for all your help, everyone! We decided to jump at the chance to get the 250 BWV points right away and go resale. We just put in our offer and should hear by tonight!! Keep your fingers crossed for us!!

I can't believe it, but it was ALREADY ACCEPTED!!! Just have to wait through the closing process and then 250 BWV points are OURS!!

Thanks again everyone for all your help! We're calling our rep at Disney tomorrow to get started on the 150 VWL points, so hopefully it'll all close out about the same time.
