Buying sunscreen on board

Does anyone have a rough estimate of how much it costs to buy sunscreen on the ship? We are travelling with carry-on luggage only and won't be able to bring a big bottle of sunscreen with us, and I figure for the price of several travel sizes I might as well just buy it on board. I assume they sell it on the ship?! Anyone know what brand? I need a lot since I am a pale Canadian and I am very against skin damage so I want to make sure I can get some on the ship.

How are you getting to the port?

That's not really the non sequitur that it seems. I don't know the specific prices, but as an educated guess, I'm going to say at least $6-$10 onboard.

If you're using private transportation to get to the port, you can make a stop at a local store to buy sunscreen much cheaper.

We ran out during our WBPC 2014 cruise. We bought a Coppertone spray sunblock for $12 if I remember correctly. When we got back it was the same price at Walmart/Walgreens for the same size. Granted if you have a coupon it would be cheaper but IMHO that wasn't too bad. I expected the cost to be much higher on the ship.

you could also bring the little bottles for the first day on teh ship, etc and then buy something on the first island.. We picked up an extra bottle in Key West.

Well, yeah, duh. We had to buy some stuff (forgot the toothpaste) on one of our recent cruises that stopped in Key West. Went to the local CVS there. I totally didn't think about that (and I did it!).

Buy small travel bottles from the $ store and fill them up with sunscreen you bought at home. That's what we did on our last trip to Cancun in November - our first time ever travelling with carry on only. Worked quite well (plus I had purchased the sunscreen at the end of summer so it was already on sale).

I really found prices very reasonable on the ship, definitely not the prices you would expect in Disney parks. I think you will be fine purchasing on board.

My daughter is allergic to sun screen so we have to make sure to bring a allergen free one from home. We just pack it in a plastic bag in the suitcase. I don't know what to tell you since you aren't checking bags. We purchased it on the ship once and we had to make a trip to the medical bay for some Benedryl. The sunscreen is about $12.00 as the PP stated.

Why not ship it to yourself on the ship since Disney will allow you to have one package mailed to your stateroom. As long as you label it and it adheres to the dimensions Disney sets you shouldn't have a problem. We are going on a one week trip to WDW and a then a 4 day cruise. I'm planning to get a few prepaid US Postal packages and ship some sunscreen and other things (snorkel gear) we won't need for WDW to the ship so that we don't have to fill our suitcases with unnecessary items. Also plan to bring 2 with us to send things home before we board the Dream. Then you can get the specific brand of sunscreen you prefer and even pick it up now when it is a bit cheaper.

Oh, I like the idea of buying some in your first port. Also, prices on board don't seem too astronomical. We also can't bring razors on the plane so I guess we can buy those in San Juan somewhere! I had considered bringing a bunch of sunscreen in little travel bottles, but I don't want to fill like 15 minis and carry them with me, but maybe just few for the first two days or so! Thanks everyone.

You might be able to pick some up at the airport when you land before getting to your transportation. Pricing might still a little high but maybe not as high as on board.

YES!

Depending on how many people are in the OP's party, and depending on how many baggies they will be using for things they must have, they could have more than one baggie of store-bought bottles filled with sunscreen. I have lots of 100ml bottles that have sunscreen in them. Since DH and DS don't have picky hair like I do (though the H2o stuff on DCL works for my hair, thank goodness), they don't polish their nails, they don't wear mascara, etc, the baggies are generally mine to use as I wish. So I've been known to have a baggie or two of just sunscreen. :)

The prices are for very small bottles, though. The bottle I bought on Castaway (and this is before the new VAT was implemented in the Bahamas) was about that price, and was *maybe* 4 oz.

Sure you can bring razors onto the airplane. Allowed in carryons in the US and in Canada: here

I mean, unless you use a straight razor or loose blades that are screwed into a handle. But most people don't use those.

It's easy to think of the bottles as being mini, but 100ml of sunscreen is quite a lot! We think of travel sized bottles in terms of Holiday Inn shampoos, but those are generally 3/4 oz or 1oz, not anywhere near 3.4 oz.

Another option for your carryon liquids, since the op is flying in and unable to stop at a store for refreshments, if they had wanted to carryon alcohol they could use this space for mini travel size bottles of rum, wine etc.... And buy the sunscreen on board, bc the markup on drinks is way higher than sunscreen, just make sure the bottles are under 3 oz each and you can fill up a gallon zip lock back full.... ;)

Not sure what ship you're on, but at least on Dream in the locker room in the shower area they have simple 1 or 2 blade shavers. I'd have a picture, but it's weird to take pictures in locker rooms. :) Big big jar filled with pink basic shavers, just near the showers. All guests (maybe 18+ but I'm not sure) can use the shower areas. Not sure if it's on all ships, though.

But that's only if you forget your shavers. :)
