Buying sight unseen?

I bought into DVC never seeing my home away from home or taking the DVC tour. We bought into SSR in April and went home for the first time in May. I was very nervous buying into SSR but my first trip home confirmed we did the right thing. I only wish we bought sooner!! :)

If you are purchasing from a "brand" (DVC, Marriott, Westin) buying site unseen makes sense.

We purchased DVC and several Marriott's without ever seeing them. We have now made it to all except one of the MVCI resorts that is under construction, and have yet to be disappointed.

Brand name companies tend to not be big on negative surprises. That is why they command a premium.

Considering that we purchased our house (just a bit.... more than our dvc membership) strictly from a builder's plan, we may not be the norm, but I would rather spend my travel time enjoying the destination and time with the kids rather than time with even the nicest ts salesperson....

We had been to WDW several times on and off property, and have stayed with friends who live in Kissimmee ( work at WDW) finally bought DVD no tour. Wish we had purchased sooner !

We bought BCV sight unseen as soon as it went on sale. :thumbsup2 Epcot is our favorite park, and we knew without a doubt that we wanted to stay close by. They were selling VWL when we first called, but our wonderful guide told us that BCV was going to go on sale in a few months, so we waited it out and bought over the phone without even taking the tour first.

We bought sight unseen at BCV in 2002, six months after walking past the construction with barely a glance at it. You people made me do it. ;)

Wow! Do I feel better! DH and I took the plunge this morning at WL!!!!! We were going to stay there anyway in March but now we have to cancel that ressie and make a new one through DVC for our studio! Yipppeee!!!!

Now....how do I get that nifty banner in my sig?

Well, first you have to be certified as being worthy! :snooty: :rotfl:

Then in your browser, select "view source" while looking at this page, and you can see how others have done it. (More explicit instructions on request.)

WELCOME HOME!

Though we'd stay at moderate resorts, we'd often park our car at BWV, spend some time on the Boardwalk then make our way to Epcot's back entrance. We would always see people biking and strolling down a hill to the left when we'd be entering Epcot to the right. When we learned that was the location of BCV, we bought there, sight unseen. Can't wait for September to see what's down that hill!

Took a trip to WDW in 2001. Loved it. Stayed at a moderate resort.

In 2002 we decided to go back to WDW (for 2003). Found this board online. Checked into DVC. They were pre-selling BCV at the time. Ended up buying BCV even though I had never even seen the Epcot resorts, let alone taken the DVC tour. Bought in 2002. Stayed at VWL first, then when BCV opened, stayed at BCV, our home resort.

We bought sight unseen WAAAAAAYYYYYYY back when the only DVC was OKW - originally called the Disney Vacation Club I believe. We have been going at least once a year since 1986. Always saw the DVC booths at the parks, (MK had once right on Main St. next to the photo store). Kept telling my husband forget it, there's no way we can afford that with 2 samll children, house, yada yada. Went home, called, had the info sent, best thing we ever did. 1993. To all those with small children, my advice is to do it now, and have it paid off before college and the weddings arrive!! :sunny:

Hey all! DH and I are close to making a decision about DVC. We've never taken a tour or stayed at any of the DVC properties. Should we be worried about buying into a property "unseen"? Can you ever change your home resort???

That is a big :sad2: :badpc: No NO.
ONLY buy where you plan to stay.

I would have bought sight unseen, as I have a lot of faith in the Disney product overall. DH is a bit more of a skeptic, so we did the tour thing prior to actually buying.

I would have no problem advising someone to buy sight unseen, as I have been in most of the properties and they are all equally nice, though themed differently. I would not advise someone to buy without researching the financials though. That, to me, is the more important aspect.
