How have your experiences been? We want to add on 200 points. We are currently owners of 200 SSR points. We usually NEVER book at the 11 month window - so where I own is not of a huge concern for me.
What would be the best value in dues and point cost? We want to buy through Disney (how much more does it cost to buy directly from Disney)? Does Disney have resale contracts that have loaded points?

Purchases through Disney are usually considered a direct purchase. For an add-on, you can purchase as few as 25 points or as many as you'd like based on what DVC has available. There would be no closing costs with such a purchase.

All direct purchases come with all points from the current Use Year and all points intact for the next Use Year. There will not be any banked points. As of today, you could still purchase an add-on for a December Use Year and still get all 2009 points to use or bank. As of today, you can no longer purchase an add-on and get 2009 points for any other Use Year (including October) since 2009 points for those contracts have already expired.

Direct purchases will have the same Use Year as your original purchase for an add-on, but if you are buying 200 points you could choose another Use Year if you'd like since it would meet the minimum purchase for any resort. DVC may not have all Use Years available at all resorts but your guide can advise about what is available. A direct purchase would be much faster, if timing is important to you. Just be prepared for a lot more expense.

This frequently update thread will give you some idea about what resale prices have passed ROFR in recent months - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1960185&page=215 . Here is a link to recent information on DVCnews.com about pricing for direct purchses.

You might take a look at resale prices - the Timeshare Store link above is a great reference - and then compare that to the pricing offered directly through DVC.

Good luck with your decision! :)

Your situation is similar to ours when we bought, so I'd buy what we bought. I'd buy either OKW or SSR resale. I'd look for a contract that has all or the vast majority of the current year points available and not worry about "loaded" contracts unless you just stumble into one. In your situation -- points is points -- a full resale contract is far more cost effective than ANY direct purchase would be.

I believe Disney is charging $90 or $95 per point at SSR and OKW.

You'll see occasional reports of contracts selling lower, but I think most resales of SSR are selling in the mid-$60s and most OKW contracts are selling in the low $60s to high $50s. On 200 points, you're looking at saving at least $5,000 with SSR and $6,000 with OKW.

And as far as the extended (2057) contracts at OKW...I personally wouldn't pay a penny for points I don't get until 2042. YMMV.

SSR or OKW expiring in 2057 (all direct OKW contracts and a few OKW resales) are a pretty good balance btwn pt cost and dues.

if you buy direct, i would split it into 3-4 contracts - makes it easier to sell later or divide among heirs. but if you buy resale, you will save more per pt.

here is a thread for understanding the general differences between buying resale and direct.

here is (usually accurate) current pricing for contracts purchased directly.

there is a link above for resale listings.

I would agree with those prices. I would invite the original poster to email The Timeshare Store at sales@dvcstore.com and we can add you yo our distribution list so when we get new listings you would be notified.
