Buying points

I'm not sure where to post this so please feel free to put it somewhere else if needed.

For a trip I'm trying to plan for next year I need an additional 27 points. I am not interested in adding on points to our DVC but just looking to get some points 1 time. I realize we can buy points from DVC for the year but the most they allow is 24 points. Is it possible to either rent 3 points or 27 points from another DVC owner?

You will want to look for points for transfer. Transfer points are usable at 7 months, much as one-time-use points are.

If you get a transfer from a member with the same resort as you, you can use them at 11 months out. Just make sure you are not borrowing them because you can't borrow transferred points. You can use current ones or bank them to use later, but not borrow them.

Deb and Bill, thank you for that info. I went to a post in the rental forum that someone is looking to transfer 23 points that expire 9/30/16. If I am able to purchase them I would be able to use them for a trip the first week in Sept 2016 right? I really hope that is not a stupid question but I don't want to transfer/pay for points then not be able to use them and be out the money.

They can transfer them as long as they were not banked already.

Yes, if the points expire on 9/30/2016, they can be used to pay for a trip that will occur the first week of September 2016. Know that MS will have to make the reservation for you. If you cancel that reservation, the transferred points will go back into your account, but will still edpire at the end of September. Also, to use the cancelled points to make another reservation, you would have to call MS. Transferred points do not show up in your account unless the points were from your same resort and your same use year.

Good luck - sounds like you may have found a solution for your "shortgage". You can use the 23 transfcerred points (assuming you can still get them) and buy the extra 4 for $15 each from MS when you make the reservation.
