Buying OTU points when I have points available

Is it possible to buy OTU points when I currently have points available? I currently have a Dec 2018 reservation with banked points. The 7 month window opens in a couple days. I want to make a May 2019 reservation (still my 2018 UY, but using 2017 banked points) next month and bank my left over 2018 points into my 2019 use year. I'd like to buy 24 OTU points to apply toward that Dec 2018 reservation so I have more points available in 2019. And I'd rather apply the OTU points to december because I think it'll be easier to get at 7 months than the may reservation if star wars land opens.

can you buy OTU points online? Do the points need to be for a reservation 7 months to the day? Or if my check in date is currently 7 months away, can I buy points to add on to the end of my reservation?

There is no requirement you be out of points to buy the OTU points. There will be the requirement that there be days available though if you want to use them towards the Dec reservation. You would not be able to buy points to swap out with a home priority booking.

I'm wondering if I can add on the 14th with OTU points starting on May 9th, or if I need to wait until May 14th to add that night to my existing reservation?

If the reservation was booked using the the home resort advantage period you can’t add on at 7 months from check in unless availability still exists. The OTU points are for reservations made at 7 months or less only. If your original stay is not avail at 7 months then you would have to wait to add onto it until you are 7 months out from the add on day (assuming that is still avail).
