We just got back from WDW and looked at buying in at SSR at $89 a point. I was wondering is it better to buy new at SSR or to buy resale points. It looks like we would save some money but have less years to enjoy it. I was wondering what else we should consider in this decision and what do you all think?

Thanks!

In my opinion, the most important consideration is the resort - which DVC resort would you want to stay at the most? At your home resort, you will have an 11 month booking window. If you are willing/able to plan that far in advance, you will always be sure of getting your first choice of dates and room types. The most frequently repeated piece of advice from this forum is "Buy where you plan to stay the most!"

SSR is the only on site DVC resort that is currently available to new members directly from Disney. If you decide on one of the others (OKW, BWV, VWL or BCV), you will need to purchase a resale.

Best wishes -

I'll join in the chorus that you'll no doubt hear: "Buy Where You Want To Stay." While swapping.within.DVC is an attractive feature, it will always be easier to book your home resort at 11 months than another at 7 months. While there are other considerations (how much $$$ you have, your age, etc), you'll have your DVC home resort for longer than you'll probably own any house - make sure that it's a resort that you'll look forward to, not "settle for".

Of course, once you choose, this pretty much makes the Disney (SSR) vs. Resale (all others) decision.

Best of Luck!

PS Any of the resorts would be much better than the snow and cold we've had here in Michigan this winter! ;)

We just bought at SSR and were tossing around the same thoughts as you. The time was more important to us then our home resort. We never make plans that far in advance and live within a few hours of Disney so last minute works for us. Either way you will be happy you made the move...

We too just bought SSR and I was going thru a ton of calculations on which is the cheapest, easiest to get to such and such a location then I just realized that I really wanted SSR. I told my husband that I was trying to save $$ with resale and he was right when he said what is 2-4K extra over 40-50 years to get SSR.
Buy what you want, since I made my decision I am VERY exicted to go home to SSR July 15th for the first time. I cant wait to see the new pool, rooms, etc and be close to Downtown Disney as I love to wander the shops in the evenings.
Do what feels best to you so you do not have any regrets.
Good luck,
Lisa
