Buying Magicbands early?

I know that there are a select few magicbands that I can purchase through the disney store website...but I really want to purchase ones that are NOT sold there. I was super excited about the new shopping app until I saw I couldn't order the magicbands through there.

So my question is, is there any way to order those magicbands and have them shipped to me? I know I can always use ebay, but the markup is roughly $10 each!

I know that for most merchandise there is a number you can call and they will find and ship you your item(s), but I thought someone said they won't ship magicbands this way? Can anyone confirm this?

You could call merchandise services, I don't have experience with this so cannot confirm.

I want them ahead of time because I am planning a surprise trip for my family in April, but wanted to announce the trip as a Christmas present. My husband really likes the new Grumpy magicband, and one daughter loves the castle one, so I thought magicbands might be a fun way to announce the upcoming trip!

Do you know anyone going prior to your trip? We had family bring back the ones for our trip then when we went we brought back some for other family going next year.

This was my first thought, but so farI don't know anyone going before Christmas

I'm not sure if this has changed since the app came out but guest relations at any park or DTD can ship anything from the park to your house for a fee that isn't small. If you know where the bands you want are, try to call and see. DTD in the pin traders store I think has every band offered so call the DTD guest relations and ask.

If you expect to use these, don't touch ebay. You can't transfer a magic band to someone else and you can't leave a disney store without it activated. Your basically buying a souvenir from ebay, not a band you can use.

I cannot confirm but they are really strict on the bands being activated before they leave the store and on limited edition bands you have to activate and put into your mde account to leave the store with it.

I was told that Merchandise Services will not ship Magic Bands. I know that the resort gift shops will let you leave with the bands not linked to a specific MDE, as my friend purchased one for me (the Americana Mickey band) while she was there in July.

The Americana Band is a limited release ($24.95) and I was able to have a friend purchase it, and then link it to my MDE when they returned from WDW. This was at a resort gift shop so maybe the CM made a mistake but that is my one experience that even though it was "limited release", it did not have to be linked immediately at purchase.

Welcome to Disney World! But in all seriousness this is one of the most frustrating things about WDW - there is a real lack of consistency between CM's on items such as this.

Gotcha. My bands were not limited editions just character bands. We bought Tinker Bell, Princesses, the Castle and Grumpy for my husband. I couldn't resist that one.

Those are the exact 3 I plan to get! Well, plus one for myself maybe. Not sure since I am not that obsessed with any of them!

I actually just found someone who will be there the beginning of November!! So hopefully that works out...!! Well, as long as she can get them where I can link then later!! I didn't even know there might be a problem with that!

Keep in mind, I've never used this service and just did a quick google search. You may want to look into them a little more, as sifting through the internet, I've seen some not-so-great reviews. Also, they're charging you quite a premium (in the cases of the special bands, you're paying an extra $10!).

Surprisingly Disney is missing a revenue opportunity here for sure! I don't understand why the pricier decorated bands are not available from the .com store or in the mall store locations. We wanted to get bands for my mom, nephew and SIL before our upcoming trip but want to get them the special ones and we ran into the same issue. I may ask a cousin who lives in the area go to DTD and buy them for me and ship them or I may pop over there myself during my fall Universal trip if I have the time.

Lisa at easywdw.com has a business where she takes orders for WDW merchandise and ships it. I have not used her service, but if you check easywdw.com you can get more information. Her info is probably in a merchandise post or you could ask in the forums. Then if you can buy a band and not immediately link it to an account, she could help you out.
