Hi I an currently bidding on DVC resales at Vero Beach, my question is has anyone that owns at Vero Beach ever had a problem getting a reservation at WDW with short notice 2 months of less or at the 7 month booking point. I am hoping to close in August and use my new timeshare to travel to Disney on Oct of this year. What resorts were available on short notice?? Thanks.
Please ease my mind.

October is very popular with DVC members & it's very possible, likely that what you want is already booked.

I would book something for cash rather than wait for a resale to close.

I wouldn't buy at VB to stay in WDW. I use my VB points at VB. the maintenance fees are very high. Some here even " warn" that they see Disney selling off VB, for instance in case of massive destruction by a hurricane. I don't know about anything like that, but think and read about what others will tell you about buying at VB to stay at WDW.

Yes, it can be hard to get reservations at less than 7 months, especially from Oct through the end of the year. With just 2 months notice, you'll need some luck to get anything at all in October. The largest DVC resorts would be the most likely to have something (SSR, OKW, AKV). You'd almost certainly be shut out of the Epcot resorts (BCV, BWV).

Most DVC owners book 7-11 months out, like all timeshares, short notice availability can be very hard to find.

If you're buying VB with the expectation that you'll always be able to find something at 7 months at WDW, you may be disappointed.

If you are only at the bidding stage of resales right now then a closing in August is being very optimistic on your part IMO. From agreement on a contract to being able to book a room, my resale took 11 weeks and 4 days (just 3 days shy of 3 months). That said, other individuals have been more lucky than me and it is not impossible to close within 8 weeks of verbal agreement. If you have definite plans to go in October (i.e. plane tickets and time off) then I would do as bobbiwoz suggested and book something else, just in case. If you only book a hotel room through Disney (and not a "package") you only have to put down one night's deposit and can cancel within 5 days of arrival. If you do close in time to be able to book something else, then go ahead and cancel and book with your new points. It is not impossible to find availability even a few weeks out if you are willing to take what you can get and usually do a split stay but it does really depend on the time of year. As noted, October is VERY busy with F&W stays so you may be completely out of luck by then.

I saw in another thread that you are looking to use your points for WDW not Vero. I think you should seriously reconsider buying at Vero. You might save a few thousand right now but you will probably have many, many years of aggravation ahead of you when trying to make reservations on short notice. You also have to take into account that there are a number of low point options that will not be available on short notice - using more points means you will need to buy more points. If you buy at a resort where you want to stay, you will probably be able to use less points if you book before the 7 month mark - so you might be able to buy less points to meet your needs. Just consider the long term options before you jump into buying at Vero.

Thank you for all your information, we have decided to remove our Bid at Vero Beach and have sumbitted a bid at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

I think you've made a very wise decision. Good luck with your AKV contract!

I agree that AKL is preferable over VB... good luck and pixie dust to you!

LynnGirl, you made a very smart decision. Also, I think you'll really like AKV. Plus, AKV has Value Studios which can save you points (but you have to book really early to get them because the points are so low). It also has Concierge level rooms, too. You get the best of all words here.

It seems you want to buy in at the lowest cost. AKL is very easy to get at 7 months. I would buy SSR which has a lower buy in and lower dues. This post was meant for lynngirl.
