More questions!
Tees (seems like they'd be a simple purchase, but they're not all the same)
Balls (probably necessary to the game...are there different kinds and does it matter which?)
Practice balls
Swing Groover (I don't even remember what that was!)
Putting mat and electric ball return
Putting cup
Auto putt return
Gloves

Tee's-- yes, when in doubt get the longer ones as they can be pushed into the ground if too long
Balls,-- just get some of the refurbished balls for now. If you want new--get Noodles to start-good all around ball
Practice balls--nice stocking stuffer if he will use them but most people don't
Swing Groover--NO, not until he has had some lessons
Putting mat/ball return--again, if he will use them, good stocking stuffer but I have 2 of them that we used for a while and they are taking space in the basement. If you have a low berber carpet somewhere in the house, putting on that is fine
Glove--yes but you need to know the size so best to give him a gift certificate to a golf shop or pro shop for that. Target's selection of golf gloves is horrible-better off with Golf Galaxy or the pro shop where he golfs for that.
Another good stocking stuffer thing for golf is a club cleaning brush and a golf towel for his bag. Get him some ball markers (maybe his favorite sports team ??) Also, a divot repair tool--nothing fancy--I like the small ones with the rubber coating on them that businesses often give away.

If you are looking for something nicer, golf shoes are a good idea-gift card vs buying some though
