Buying Food at Fort Wilderness or Wilderness Lodge?

We are not big breakfast eaters in our family, so we plan on having some breakfast type quick meals on hand in our room (yogurt, breakfast bars, etc.), along with some other snacks. We will be staying at the Wilderness Lodge, and I know there is a store there with such items, but my thought are that there is probably a better store at the Fort Wilderness campground.

Can anyone tell me if the food in the store at the campground is less expensive than that in the Wilderness Lodge? I had thought about bringing some of this stuff down on the plane (obviously not yogurt), but am not so sure if it's worth it.
- We will not have a car.

Any thoughts?

I haven't noticed a big difference in the type of foods offered or the price between FW and WL when it comes to breakfast foods. The prices are similar to convenience store prices (a little higher than the average grocery store, but not outrageous).

Have you also checked into one of the grocery delivery services like wegoshop or Garden Grocer?

There are also some Hess convenience stores on property. The easiest one to get to by Disney transportation is the one across from DTD. They carry typical convenience store products, but a little different choice than the Disney stores.

We always use wegoshop.com for grocery deliveries. This will be our 4th time in October. The cost is the cost of the items at a regular grocery store plus a $17 delivery fee. I believe that I save the delivery fee over shopping at the Disney resort stores.
We order coffee, juice, breakfast bars, water, soda, beer, wine, cheese and crackers etc.

Why don't you just skip the yogurt for the week and maybe pack breakfast bars/pop tarts/some fruit in your luggage? The room that it takes in a bag on the way there will leave room for you to bring back souvenirs.

My husband and I are DVC members so we have a refrigerator and buy a half gallon of milk there and bring 2 boxes of cereal with us to eat for breakfast. In the past - pre-DVC years - we brought fruit/cereal and breakfast bars/pop tarts/etc. and ate it all week. Also, the pre-boxed doughnuts (I think they are Entmann's or something like that) sold in the stores are the same price as in a regular grocery store - because they are pre-marked by the distributor. So, if you pay $2.99 in the store for the box, that's what you pay in the store at Disney for the box. (though I don't know if you are doughnut fans). You can bring various Little Debbie type snacks from home too for breakfast...

Just some CHEAP ideas that can save you money in one area to have more to spend in other areas!!! (like souvenirs!)

Not cheap sounding at all. In fact this was something that I thought of doing as well.


I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks up this stuff.
This sounds like the way to go, even if I just buy fresh fruit at Disney and bring the other stuff.

Fresh fruit at Disney is quite expensive... that's the one thing that we just give up for our vacation - or pack it with us... they price it per piece of fruit in the store... like $1 an apple, etc. (I don't remember the exact price - but it just wasn't worth it) - they also have pieces of fruit in Roaring Forks - but that may be even more than they charge in the store. If you actually have any spare time when you do get there it may be worth the trip over to the campground via the boat from WL to see what they have at the store there.. but if you really don't have the time and can see your time better spent having fun rather than shopping around to save a few cents on grocery items for breakfast, then skip that plan. We did pack some oranges and bananas one time in a cardboard box inside of our bag and they didn't get squished - but I do believe it made the security flag the bag to be inspected (we received one of those little pieces of paper saying they opened our bag)... which was no big deal because all we had in the bag was food anyway, not our underwear or anything It's up to you what you want to bring along and what you want to get when you arrive... but I wouldn't waste time ordering groceries (with a $17 delivery charge) for breakfast... I think checking a small extra bag with food in it is worth the savings!
