Hi All,

My husband and I are seriously considering buying DVC direct for Copper Creek Villas. We were thinking of purchasing 250 points. My question is would it be worth while to buy 200 from Copper Creek, then get on a waitlist to buy 50 points for Beach Club (one of our favorite resorts). We aren't necessarily in a rush, so my other question would be would you consider waiting and buying Riviera direct instead of Copper Creek? We enjoy both MK and Epcot areas, so the location of the resorts aren't a huge deal, thinking more in terms of best investment.

Thanks!

Buy Copper Creek if that is where you want to stay most of the time . If you think you will like Riviera better, buy that. CC one bedrooms and studios are limited to four people so takebtgst into consideration. But seriously consider resale and save a bundle.

DVC is not an investment. Just buy where you want to stay.

Make sure CCV works for your family, as others have said, if you have more than 4 you will always need a 2 bedroom. If you aren’t in a hurry, I’d wait and see what happens with Riviera. I don’t think CCV will sell out before Riviera opens for sales.

Also consider buying 75 points direct and adding the rest resale (especially if you want BCV, the direct price is ridiculous now).

BCV small contracts are hard to get through resale. They may sell as soon as they are listed. I have heard that the guides won’t even put you on a waitlist if you try to buy BCV direct from Disney.

Make sure you understand the new resale rules, in case you might need to sell.

We love Wilderness Lodge and Cooper Creek Villas so would take that over Riviera. Also considering the restriction that DVC has put on Riviera for resale, I personally would not buy Riviera. Have you considered buying CCV direct and then a smaller contract Beach Club resale?

DVC definitely not an investment, even though prices have soared in the last few years.

If you're looking for the best value and don't care where you stay, buy at SSR on the resale market. Otherwise buy where you want to stay. 250 points is fair amount of points every year, make sure you take into account dues, and the increased amount of money and trips you'll take to WDW. We used to go every 2 years or so, and now with DVC we're going much more often and spending a lot more money doing so.

Are you aware of the new restrictions for resale? This would particularly affect your "investment" if you were to purchase a small Rivera contract. If you buy CCV or even BC then your value, if you would need to sell, would be much better with these resorts vs Rivera. Many here feel the resale prices for Rivera will be pretty low. For a hypothetical situation - you buy Rivera now at $190 pp, but realize in 5 years you don't want that contract and want to sell. Educated people on the resale market will know that Rivera will have less value with only being able to book Rivera. So the resale market might be $100pp. But you buy beach club resale now at $150 per point and same scenario you want to sell in 5 years your BC contract on the resale market with still having bookable access to the original 14 resorts will hold more value so at that point you might be able to resell at $140 per point -- taking less of a loss when you need to get out.

Just something to consider with your purchase. You can buy CCV points direct and then look on the resale market for a BC contract. With the direct prices of the older resorts being insane - it sometimes doesn't make sense to go direct once you have direct points which give you the perks. You just have to run the numbers and decide what you want to pay and what you can afford.

How you divide the points for your purchase really depends on the time of year and the room size you want. Look ahead at the 2020 points charts as they have changed so the room that you can afford 7 nights at in 2019 might only get you 6 nights in 2020.

Thank you all for the honest and helpful feedback! I re-read my post, and I definitely misspoke when I said the term "best investment". I was more referring to our best use of money. We go to Disney every year, and every time we go, we stay at a 1-bedroom Villa at DVC, so we are considering buying as it may help cut down some of the yearly costs we acquire when we go as general guests. I think from reading everyones comments, it would be best to buy direct with CCV, rather than waiting on Rivieria due to the new DVC restrictions, then buy a small contract to BCV through resale (pending availability). Thanks all!

If you are set on CCV direct, maybe consider buying either 125 points direct ($750 incentive) or 150 points ($1500 incentive), and the the rest resale. Take a look at the new points charts and see if it's worth it. The resale points will still be considerably cheaper, and if you buy a later-than-January/Feb UY direct, you will get "double" points (2018 points) in addition to 2019 points, which may be close to a good deal compared to resale. Since you would have "double" points to use in 2019, you effectively could use 250-300 points in 2019, see if that's the right size contract for you, and wait to buy additional resale points until 2020, rather than buying all 250 points right now. That's also a lower up front cost, and you could have more flexibility later if you decide to sell one of your smaller contracts.

So, say we do buy 150 direct for CCV, then do a smaller contract (100) resale for BCV or BWV, can we combine points for 1 vacation?

Yes but only at the 7 month mark. You could book 11 months out for each home resort. If you know the dates, you could book your rooms as a split stay using the 11 month advantage at each and then at 7 mos try to change the days to the other resort and cancel. This could require additional points at that time depending on if the resort you cancel on is more or less expensive per night.

@adrich - this is what I would say, except - if you like both resorts, book as a split stay at 11 mo and keep it as a split! If you had CCV and an EP area resort, you could stay at CCV for half your stay, spending more time in the MK area (and AK), and then move to BCV/BWV for the other half of your stay, and focus on EP/HS-area fun then. (We ended up not buying BCV/BWV as we'd originally planned, but we essentially do this by staying at the Swan/Dolphin, usually for the first 3 days of our stay). We do our BW area meals andEP/HS visits then, and then move on to MK/AK later.

Actually, you could just modify the reservation you want to change and the call MS to combine the two. No need for additional points unless the new reservation takes more than the original one.

Right. My assumption was based on one being more points than the other. Its possible going one direction the second reservation at 7 mos window would be less pts/night and require additional to move to the first resort. Could work the other way also and you can just bank those points, use them in the future or stay a few extra days :)

Only if they were the same UY. Otherwise, you'd have to transfer from one to the other. Buy the resale first and them have them match your UY with the direct CCV purchase.

If they are not the same UY, they would be separate member contract numbers, not an add-on.

Copper Creek has a major non availability issue. Already 11 months out for next Xmas, not only are studios gone, but 1 beds. This is unprecedented and shows how much the cabin points have impacted it.
Personally I would be very wary about buying there at all if you intend to travel October to December and major holidays. Unless you booked in the scramble bang on 11 months, you could be left locked out of most properties at 7, particularly in a studio.

Or learn how to do a walk as soon as your UY points are available to do so...........
