Buying DVC

December 2017 I decided to buy Copper Creek points direct... contract was mailed to me. I got a bit nervous when I started thinking about a post on these boards regarding the total number of points to be sold at copper creek and the percentage of those points represented by the cabins. This translated to a huge number of points, but the average points being purchased were no where near enough to use cabins, meaning a lot of people who would never rent cabins, competing with each other for limited smaller rooms, especially studios.

I panic bailed on the deal and bought resale Boulder Ridge, and bought minimal direct points to get member benefits. I realize that Boulder has a deed end date of 2042, but rooms are not usually an issue when trying to make a reservation, studios can hold 5 people, and I wanted to be at the wilderness lodge.
My concern was proven true when I started looking at booking availability for Copper Creek.

I've been monitoring the Copper Creek studio availability and it is horrible. Spotty day here/day there availability this coming october/november/december. People have to walk reservations to get anything.

Buy resale and if you want to buy direct points for the membership benefits I would select another resort and get on a waitlist if needed.
Polynesian/Bay Lake Tower/Grand Floridian all have deed end dates >= 2060

Best decision I have made in a long time. My suspicion was proven true when I started looking at booking availability for Copper Creek.

I would say even Boulder Ridge is as spotty during that period for a studio only stay. However, it appears that Boulder Ridge didn't go right at 8 AM (but disappeared soon after) and it's larger Villas have availability. I don't think the true impact of the Cabins on booking will be known until next year as a lot of direct purchasers have a lot of points in the first year of their travel to burn through.

If someone wanted easy studio availability I recommend PVB (even though it has Bungalows because it only has the one class and Thanksgiving week was available for a week+ when 11 month opened up), BLT (larger resort easier availability), and AKV. OKW and SSR are more easily available at 7 months right now. I would avoid VGF it is small and if one wanted a studio during peak DVC times it is just as difficult.

I'm in the same CCV boat. I finally talked us into buying some direct but when I looked at booking there 11 months out it seems like availability is already pretty limited. I'm used to pretending value and concierge rooms don't really exist at AKV but there is always some sort of studio available at Kidani if not Jambo.

For CCV for at least Oct-Dec if you have a set time you want to go and want a studio then a fixed week is probably the way to go. If you don't have a fixed time you and want a studio you may be in for a rather unpleasant DVC experience.
