Hello!

This is my first post on Disboards!

I am here because we are considering buying DVC in mid to late 2016 and paying cash. I am currently trying to convince my husband that we need to buy resale because it is much cheaper, but that is a whole other issue.

Can you all give me pros and cons and the different resorts? What are your personal favorites? We have a family of 5 (YDD 1, ODD 3, DS 6). I want to find a home resort that my kids will like when they are young and teens. We are trying to be as thrifty as possible, BUT we like convenience. I plan on trying to take a tour when we go next year and are staying at POR. The next stay after that we will rent some points and I will try to explore a resort to get a feel for it.

I know the Poly is coming to DVC next year some time. When do you think I may see it on the resale market or would it even make sense to buy that one resale? This is all very overwhelming! I have been lurking the boards a bit, but there is just sooo much information to take in.

I am trying to figure out use year too. We will probably try to vacation once or twice a year at various times. My husband is in the military if that matters at all. Thank you for all your help!

Welcome!

Nothing thrifty about buying at Poly even if you wait for a resale. Same goes for VGF, still too new and not enough resale contracts. Same for buying anything direct from Disney. The only reason to buy Poly and VGF would be if that's where you want to stay, period. Points charts at VGF are high and Poly will be even higher.

If you want convenience by staying at a monorail resort BLT will be your best bet. VWL would be good because its a boat ride from MK. Best possible bang for your buck would be SSR, lower buy-in cost (resale), almost the lowest dues and a longer contract life. We find SSR very convenient but you cannot walk to a park from there if that's important to you.

Biggest trouble with the military is with dvc and home resort you need to book 11 months out and that can be hard with the military schedule. We almost had to cancel our 11 month booking 2 months out because they moved him to a new office but they worked around the pre planned trip, but you never know if they will. It is very much a cross my fingers every time I book at 11 months because so much can change military wise in those 11 months.

Oh and I like beach club for its pool area and proximity to epcot... Full disclosure I own at old key west due to often not being able to book at 11 months anyway.

Well, I guess the Poly is out of the running then....lol

I was actually looking at beach club because I love its proximity to Epcot and HS. Plus, I heard the pool area is the best. I didn't like that even the one bedrooms only sleep 4. I am actually easy to please with everything. I just have to convince my husband. He is very picky.

Oh and I know about the whole uncertainty with the military and we are taking that into consideration. We booked out reservation at POR for May this past July, so I am crossing my fingers it works out. It should though.
