Yep, the 5% savings is included on the Target Debit card even for gift card purchases.

I wish we had a grocer around here that gave you gas discounts for gift card purchases. The grocer I use specifically says that gift card purchases cannot be used toward gas discounts.

You just don't get 5% off Target gift cards, but the other gift cards target sells are considered entertainment cards (including Disney) and you do get the 5% off when using the Target debit or credit card! Nice savings on the expense of a Disney trip!

Hi!

Just wondering how often stores run these kinds of incentive, I remember our local Giant doing this in fall. I'd like to keep my eye out for this, seems like a great way to save a few dollars on groceries and stash away Disney money all at once! Any other stores that run these kinds of promos?

tia

I've noticed my grocery stores run a promo around some holidays. Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas. Just keep an eye on your local store circulars.

We just started saving, so I won't be able to buy my gift cards until Sept. But even saving 5% will make me happy for now. I will make sure that we keep the auto deposit working on our vacation club and then come December, look for the big deals. We will definitely be going back to Orlando again yearly, not only because of WDW, but to see my best friend, who happens to work for the Mouse himself.

Giant Eagle Grocers offers this discount....
On many gift cards including Disney Gift Cards for every $50 in Disney Gift cards you buy, you get 10cents off per gallon of gas. (every 4 months or so, they offer 20 cents off per gallon). What we did was, our trip was $8000 (between our two families). We purchased $8000 worth of Gift Cards, yes $8000 worth of Gift Cards. We got $960 in free gas plus you can still get the discount from the credit card you use to buy the gift cards (for us it was 5%, so we saved another $400 on top of the &960 in free gas. The discont comes on a little card for Get Go Gas stations and we had roughly $16 off per gallon per family (total of $32 off per gallon. We had 3 months to use the gas discount. We fill up 2(30) gallon tanks at least weekly plus we have a boat and two waverunners, so it was easy for us to use a lot of gas between July-Oct.:cool1:

One thing I have been cautioned about, if you pay for your trip with gift cards you should keep the actual gift cards. If anything happens where you need to cancel or get any reimbursement they will need to put the reimbursement back on the gift cards. That is the only real concern with paying with the gift cards.

I've been watching Kroger- they occasionally have 4X fuel points when you purchase $100 in gift cards. I make sure to get at least 1 Disney each time and then I get an extra .40 cents off a gallon of gas. And they already have the cheapest gas around my area.:thumbsup2
Works for me!
Next time I'm getting more than one gift card- can't beat that deal.

Yes, Our Giant offers 10c off for every $100 you spend. You use them at Shell by sliding your store ID card (Giant card in my case) and after you submit a payment card (visa, debit,) it takes the money off of the price of gas. Works well and I trade back and forth between Giant and Costco gas.

Last July 2011, Stop & Shop in NJ ran a crazy promotion.......

For every $50 in gift cards, you got a $15 coupon slip to use on a later shopping trip (on food). They sold many different gift cards, including Disney. So by buying these, I could "save" an extra 30% off on my Disney trip...... because I would have NO trouble using the $15 food coupons, I shop there all the time anyway. I bought about $600 worth in total (I had a trip coming up, I was going to use them on my hotel). It was crazy!

In December 2011, they ran this offer again, but THIS time, you got a $10 coupon slip for $100 in gift cards. SO, not quite as good, only 10%, but I did buy some Home Depot and Lowes GC, as we had some renovations coming up.

During the first sale, it was crazy, they sold out of many gifts cards as word spread....... seemed less in demand with the lower offer.

WOW! Is this over now? I live near a Stop and Shop but don't go there regularly. I will keep an eye out for this promotion, that would be great.

We shop at Stop & Shop. We get 10 cents a gallon for every $100 we spend. So I buy Disney Gft Cards. Sometimes they double the rewards. It really pays when you have to fill a Suburban which has a 42 gallon tank. :)

At our Stop & Shops (in MA) they don't include gift card purchases on the gas rewards :( Found that out the hard way at christmas when we had $300 in gift cards but didn't get any gas points. I looked it up, and it's part of the terms and conditions that nobody reads. Oh well.

Does anyone know if the Disney GC's at Target are the "any amount up to $1000" or are they pre-determined increments?

I have $850 in DVC MF's coming up and if I can buy an $850 GC from Target on my REDCard, I'll save $42! It would be way too much hassle to buy that $850 in $25 increments. I would be on the phone for hours with member services trying to give them all of the card numbers:eek:. On top of that, I am not 100% confident that MS is set up to accept more than 2 forms of payment...or 2 or more GC's.

I get gift cards at Giant Eagle too. I also pay for my Giant Eagle purchase with my Disney Visa so I earn Disney reward $$ as well as the fuel perks!

We have Giant Eagle grocery stores and you earn 20 cents off gas for every $50 you spend so I pay for my disney trips buy purchasing gift cards. So far for our trip in April I have bought $1500 worth of Gift cards and we have gotten 3 tanks of gas for free. That may not sound like a lot to some people but our trucks hold 30 gallons each so for us it saves us over $100 each time we fill up. We do this for other things not just disney gift card. Dh just bought a new grill at home depot and before he bought it he went to Giant eagle and bought a gift card to cover the cost. It really helps especially when you budget $500 a month for gas and you don't spend it because you received your gas for free buy purchasing gift cards for items you had already budgeted to spend anyway. It is a shame they are not everywhere. My mom is going with us and she doesn't have a Giant Eagle so she can't take advantage of this.

My Target only carries the $50 GCs. HTH!

I have good news and bad news for you. The bad: the highest denomination any on these boards has seen at Target is $50. The good: I can confirm that by calling MS you can pay your DVC dues with multiple gift cards. I just used 21 GCs worth $900, for which I paid $765 during the December promotions. -- Suzanne

If I remember correctly you pay a $200 deposit upfront for your trip then it is due in full so many days before your trip, I'm thinking I'll just pick up gift cards here and there and pay it off right before our trip

The seem to run it every 5-6 months? But who knows. They DO have it in their ad, and sometimes have a small sign at the gift card display. But I usually see it mentioned here first, on DIS! :surfweb:

I am thinking they will not do the $15 for every $50 again...... but one can always hope. :worship:
