Apologies if this has been covered in another thread, but I couldn't find the answer.

I know that a minimum 100 point purchase is required for the blue card.

Would someone still qualify for a blue card if they purchased 50 points directly at two different times? (For example, this month I buy 50 points direct for a resort, and then later on down the line I buy 50 more points direct for that same resort.)

I am aware of the limitations that come with a small number of points, especially with current borrowing rules. :)

Thanks in advance!

This issue recently came up through Disney (I've been on their waist list for almost 2 years for VGC). Anyway, only 51 points became available. I was told that if I purchased the 51 points now and the remaining 49 points later, then I could qualify for the blue card. However, I would still need to pay closing costs on both contracts and I would only be able to get financing for one contract (if you planned on financing). I ultimately passed. So that's my limited understanding. I'll defer to what other say, lol, since I'm a newbie to this. I've also read that Disney can raise the minimum on points required for blue cards.

I don't see how this would work. I mean anyone could say they were going to buy 50 more points "down the line" but never do it. What if your financial situation changed and you could not buy the additional 50?

So no, this would not work. Maybe just wait until " down the line" and buy all 100. I think if they raise it then it would probably only be to 125 but you never know. either way, my only regret to buy DVC is we don't have more points. :)

edit to add : unless you don't get the blue card until AFTER you own the 100 or more direct points at the same resort/uy.

Currently, you need to own a total of 100 points ( in the same membership) that were purchased directly to qualify for blue card benefits. The 100 could be purchased at different times.

I fully hear what you're saying, and perhaps I should have given more context for my personal goals/thought process. Obtaining the blue card is not my primary goal, as I don't really think I would take advantage of most of the direct benefits. Honestly, the only blue card exclusive perk that really appeals to me is the Epcot lounge, which I know is unlikely to be permanent. I'm attracted to buying direct mostly because of how easy it seems in comparison to buying resale. I'm still up in the air to what I might do, but knowing blue card may be achievable this route might be a small encouragement to go in that direction. I don't perceive that I need a large amount of points for my first purchase as I'm a solo/couple traveler who currently goes on a bi-annual basis, but I do anticipate addonitis and expect there's a high likelihood that I'll be adding more in the future after getting bitten worse. :) In the "worst case" scenario in which I never add on for whatever reason - finances, interest, etc., I still think I'd still be happy with a small sub-100 contract. Or, in the other "bad" scenario that the rules change, that'd be ok, too. The biggest harm seems to be that I'd have lost out on some extra points I could have gotten at the same price going the resale route. But I would have saved some time, worry, and homework. ;)

tl;dr - I realize resale is "smarter" for many reasons and would likely be the better value, but again, I don't perceive that I have a need for a larger amount of points for the time being, and I like the simplicity of the direct purchase process. Blue card possibility is a slight push in this direction for me.

Appreciate the info, all!

Once you have 100 total direct points, you qualify for the Blue Card. You do not need to buy them all at once. If you buy 50 points now, you will only have the white card. But if you pick up 50 points later and reach 100 or more, you will then qualify for the Blue Card.

Note that they could change their requirement at any time. If they do that and you have not yet reached 100, you will need to reach whatever the new requirement is. But if you bought all the contracts to get to 100 while the requirement was only 100, then you will be grandfathered in and will not need to buy more direct contracts to get the blue card.

Someone would not get the blue card until they bought the 100 points.

But, you can add on in smaller amounts and once the threshold is reached, you are eligible,

The only issue is that in between first and second purchase if the level increases from 100, a person now needs to hit that.

That is my understanding as well. Got in at the 25 point min a few years back. Best purchase decision at the time.

100 makes that 25 look like a steal. :teeth: Good for you (and everyone else who got in at 25, whether their timing was a conscious decision or a very happy accident).

Good for you!!

How I wish I had bought then. Honestly what I really lament is not having bought resale before all the restrictions went into place!
