Buying Direct and Buying From Third Party

The points I own were purchased directly from DVC. What happens if I were to buy points from a third party. How would that work? Would I have to make the reservations separately or would they be combined under my name? Just wondering if anyone has experience with this.

As long as you do the following you will have one membership:
1. Title the contract the same as your current one.
2. Have the same home resort.
3. Have the same UY.

If you do not meet any of these conditions, you will have separate membership number and accounts.

I own both direct and resale purchased points. For stays in DVC, I can use them together at the 7 month mark (different resorts) without an issue.

You will still not be able to use any of the resale points for the restricted options like cruises, etc.. Only the points you own that were bought direct are eligible for that, even if you own other points.

You can add on at a different resort. As long as it is the same UY and titled exactly the same it can be added on under the same membership. The points can be combined to make a reservation 7 months or less from check-in since they are from different home resorts. If the two contracts are for the same resort they can be combined when booking 11 months from check-in at their common home resort.

If the contract has a different UY and/or is not titled the same it will be set up as a separate membership. You can use points from each membership to book part of your stay (whole nights only) and then have MS link the two reservations. Or, you can transfer points from one membership to the other and combine them to make a reservation at 11 months out if all points are tied to the same resort or at 7 months out if the points are from different resorts.
