Buying diapers....

I'm not a fan of buying alot of diapers beforehand too. My kids were all such different sizes. My oldest never fit in newborn, straight to size 1 (same thing with #3) and my DD lived in the newborn sizes for at least 2 months! It did take me awhile to find a good brand with my oldest too. And he was breastfed and pooped every diaper change! (that hasn't changed much 13 years later! :lmao: ) And DD, pooped only every few days. So hard to tell what you will need! Buy yourself gift cards for diapers!

My mother had a diaper stash going for me while I was pregnant. She only had 2 packages of newborn sized... probably about 6 sized 1 and about 3 sized 2. I was thrilled to have them! My preference is Pampers for diapers... but we've used Huggies and Luvs. I received the Luvs as a gift... hated them but used the whole package because I wasn't going to "waste" them. If you want to buy diapers ahead of time just save the receipts... hang them in an envelope on your fridge so you don't lose them. Buy smaller packages... that way if you don't like them you don't have to suffer through using a ton of them. Any unopened packages that are the wrong size or a brand you don't like can always be returned or exchanged!

I like the Kirkland (Costco) brand of diapers and wipes. I agree with others, though as far as stockpiling. Don't do it. Get a few bags in the month before your baby is born. You may find the baby has an allergy or skin sensitivity. Also, diapers are bulky! You're about 30 weeks from delivery - that's 15 packages of diapers!!! Get the gift cards and try to resist the pull of the cute and tiny things. You'll have tons soon enough! Congrats and good luck!

With DS I bought a bunch of diapers ahead of time because I found Huggies packs for dirt cheap (they were changing the packaging or something.) Ended up that my son peed out of every-single-diaper and I hated those Huggies!! I ended up giving them away, and I had a lot!! :(

The gift cards are a good idea, to help you set aside money for diapers when the time comes. I think I'm going cloth diapers this time and I'll breastfeed again. My breastfed babies pooped a lot at first I think, then only went every few days. They did have wet diapers about 12 times a day? I know newborns go thru a TON of diapers LOL.

Breast fed babies don't have as many dirty diapers as formula babies.

My DD is an over-achiever then...she is nearly 3 months old and exclusively breastfed. She not only poops 4-5 times a day, but at least one is a complete blow out;) Fun, fun, fun!! My first two were formula babies and they certainly were not that way!!

To the OP, I stocked up on diapers during my pregnancy. She is my third child and this is the first time I bought them ahead of time. It was a BAD idea!! She ended up weighing over 9 pounds (my other two were around 7lbs) and never wore newborns diapers. I had to return three packs. Then, after 2 months I finally figured out that her chronic rash was due to the Pampers Swaddlers. I had just opened a case of 200 of them when I figured it out. I was able to pass them on to a friend, but I regret buying them in the first place. Now I'm using Luvs (which is what I used for my other two kids) and they work great.

Good luck to you:goodvibes

And changing diaper brands doesn't matter!!!! When your kid is sick and crapping over the moon, get the cheap stuff since it'll only be on them for maybe 30 minutes.
I have found the opposite with breast fed babies. The breastfed had about 4-5 poops a day. The bottled had 1 or 2 a day (out of 5 babies I know born at about the same time).

I also disagree with diaper brands not mattering when sick. My child would still pee through bad brands before a poop change was needed even while being sick.

So I have to say with the others do not buy in advance on things like diapers and formula. Some kids take well to one brand and not another for many reasons. When changing brands either go to a store like Costco that will guarantee the store brand or money back. Or you should buy a small pack at first to see how the baby does with them.

Also I wouldn't bother with things like baby powder. We never used it and my child only had diaper rash once as a baby. And that was only because of being sick. Powder & corn starch can actually add to the likelihood of getting it since it is just an irritant.

Also I suggest finding a "Free & Clear" detergent instead of Dreft. Less perfumes in the others and brands like All or whole sale store brands are much cheaper. We do all our clothes in that due to my spouse havin sensitive skin and so no worries about separating our clothes while washing. Less hassle for me.

I would wait. You're baby might be senstive to some diapers.

Congrats by the way:cool1: :cool1:

Well I am the opposite of everyone here LOL. I had enough diapers to last me the whole first year of her life and then some LOL. When I was preganant it was when online shopping was up and coming and all the stores had big deals- mother nature .com had buy 20.00 get 20.00 off so all you paid was shipping so I ordered through there using different credit cards and had them sent to all my neighbors houses- and many other stores did the same so I bought lots and lots of diapers- pampers, luvs, huggies- had all different kinds- we were not picky with diapers for the most part (though luvs would have the most leaks and blow outs). My entire closet was stacked with different sizes. I did have to suppliment some sizes at times, like I needed a package or 2 of preemie diapers before she fit into newborn but for the most part,
The thing I had trouble stockpiling was formula since she went though about 4 of them before we found one that worked so if I bought a case I was stuck with most of it when we switched- but I sold it on ebay so its all good.

I wouldn't buy wipes either-we went through about 4 brands of wipes before we found one that DS didn't react to. You just never know. I like the gift card idea.
