BF and I have DDE, so we've never used DDP and know nothing about it. Well, it so happens that four of my good friends are meeting up with us in FL in August! One is a CM, but the other three are from various other states. Those three are considering DDP and have a question I hope someone can help out with.

First, the logistics - BF and I are in one room. CM friend is in her apt. The other three are staying in one room. Friend L. and R. are coming in on August 15, but friend F. won't check in until 8/17 (due to work).

Is it possible for L and R to buy the DDP for 5 days and F to buy it for only 3? If that is not possible, what would you recommend for my friends to do - stick with DDP or not?

Thank you for your help!

Hi Again Lulu

You definitely all have to participate for the whole reservation, I checked that out myself last month. However, one suggestion that I've seen is to use the extra TS credits to go for signature meals to use up those credits.

The ddp must be purchased for the same number of nights as the room reservation. So "F" cannot only purchase 3 days.

If your friends enjoy TS meals, it would probably be worth it to purchase the DDP, then like the above poster said, just use the extra credits toward a 2 credit TS restaurant.
As you know purchasing tickets to the parks is also needed in order to get the ddp package.. however, you do not need to purchase the park tickets to match the nights you stay... BUT every person in that room must have the same ticket.
Unless they're purchasing non-expiring tickets, friend "F" will lose 2 days. What your friends could do is just purchase a 1 day pass for each of them, then, when they get to the parks they can upgrade them to the number of days that is needed. I believe they can do that separately so the days wouldn't have to match. Be sure they upgrade them at Guest Services outside the park.. if they activate the ticket by entering the park with it, it will be used.

You CM friend could probably help you out with the specifics.

Have a great time:)

Another suggestion would be a split reservation. Have L&R make a reservation for 2 for the 15th and 16th, and buy three day pass and their DDP for those two days. Then make a SECOND reservation for 3 people
with DDP and one day or more passes. This means that F won't be paying for DDP when s/he's not there. L&R would technically have to pay for tickets for both reservations, in order to get the DDP. If they buy a three day pass, then on day 3 when they start the second reservation and pick up their new ticket, they could simply upgrade their original 3 day pass with the new pass.....if I understand things correctly they'd get credit for the $50 or whatever a single day pass is, but it would now be a 4 day pass so they'd actually get closer to 2 days out of it. You'd have to pay a bit extra for the 5th day (or however many more they need), but it'd be cheaper than a single day pass for sure.

One possible drawback to this....I've not did yet so I can't only tell you what I've read here and on other boards.....sometimes for split stays they actually make you physically check out and move you to another room. I've read it both ways...that if you tell them at check in they'll just flag it so you don't have to check out/check in....and I have read where they insist you vacate that room and move to a different location. But....is the 30 minutes or so this would take (if it happens) worth the cost of 2 DDP's that might not get used? That's $80 of DDP....30 minutes work to keep that? No brainer to me, but would L&R who wouldn't be out the $80 feel the same? :rotfl2:

The others suggestions that those extra DDP's be used for the 2TS's work if L&R&F are interested in those TS's....but they'd have to be rather big eater to use two extra CS....probably not hard to eat the snacks! The big question might come out who's paying that $80...you can't split the 2 TS's between 3 people, so that could get sticky. Of course if L&R use it before F arrives, they can just pay for those days and reap the benefits of those DDP's.

Sounds like a fun party whatever you do!:dance3:

Thanks for the advice so far! I am not sure what they will do, but I am cutting and pasting this to email to them. I just wanted them to know what their options were, because they were all confused and had heard different things when they called up about the reservation. I don't know if they did a split stay or how they arranged it, but I guess they do and once I pass along the info they'll be better off. :)

It will be a great time, thanks! I haven't seen them in awhile and they are some of my closest friends, so I am excited.

The DDE is good for up to 10 people per use, why not just use that?

I've offered that, but then they'd have to eat every meal with me to use that discount and they'd have to pay me back (no split checks) and that doesn't affect CS places. So, L and R wanted to do DDP but F doesn't want to, because she'll only be there a few days and they're just generally confused as to how that will affect everyone. I'm confused, too, because I have ADR's made. I called to change one with L, R and A (CM) added and another with just A added. I told them I'd be willing to cancel a couple of my ADR's but they're very indecisive and I'm pushing them to decide DDP or not, so they can call and try to get ADR's or we won't be eating any other places together, KWIM?

This won't work. You can't combine 2 tickets into one so the first two people would end up spending a lot of extra money on tickets.

The offer from Disney will be this:
Room, park tickets and DDP for 3 starting on the 15th to the end of the stay. Later arriver, call them "17" will have to agree to this program. By the way they'll pay $15 extra per night for the 3rd adult even for the nights 17 isn't there.

If I were 17 I would look to sell those 2 days of DDP credits (say the 5 of you go to a 2TS place before 17 arrives or L&R do a second TS one day) at face value, $38.99 (you are friends), one to each friend (L & R).

As for making ADRs, make them and let them back out. Clearly you have stressed over this enough and given them a chance for input. If they want to make different plans give them the number and let them do the work, but at least you will have a PLAN. You should not feel any guilt, they gave you the keys, drive! Otherwise you'll be stuck with analysis paralysis and end up very hungry at Disney, not good.
