We are currently looking at ovens, quite expensive ones and I have an overwhelming feeling I am not going to like it once it is in the house and we are using it on a daily basis. Normally this is not something you return but has anyone heard of a try it or bring it back approach similar to a mattress? I have spent some time researching various ones reading both positive and negative feedback but I do not have that comfortable feeling yet. Any thoughts on appliance purchases? Also if you have bought a new stand alone range with the double oven I would like to hear your thoughts on the brand/design.

We bought a kenmore elite with a double oven at our last house. I loved it! It was great. I miss it every day, especially at holiday time.

I literally just came back from a high end appliance store. We aren't buying a stove, but I saw some that cost more than a new car.
Ask the store if they have any references of customers who bought the stove you are interested in.

I have never heard of a store taking back appliances that you don't like. Can you ask around and see if people you know have ranges you can look at or at least get their opinions on?

We had a freestanding range with two ovens. I miss them daily. Just so flexible and handy to have. When we finally move I will be buying a new one. Sorry I cannot give you advice on brands. My old one was not a traditional range we have in the US.

Lowes will take appliances back. DW bought a washing machine from them, with in 2 days, after it had destroyed some of our clothing, she called Lowes and they took it back no problem, picked it up, dropped off the other washer she selected, all for no charge (actually got money back since the washer she ended up with was cheaper)

I also had a Kemnore Elite with double ovens in my last house. Loved that short height oven on top - heated up in a flash and was awesome for pizza. Since there was no pot/pan drawer at the bottom, there was a full size oven under the top oven. I wasted my money buying the extended warranty - didn't have any problems in the 8 years we owned it.

I would say that a defective appliance is much different then someone buying a stove and then deciding that they didn't like it. If I buy an appliance that destroyed clothing I would expect the store to also take it back. I wouldn't expect them to take it back due to buyers remorse of not liking the appliance. JMO..

Yes, that is what I was trying to say. I have never heard of a store allowing you to try an appliance and return for just "not liking" it. Defective is a whole other story.

Home Depot will let you return carpet. After it's installed. Seriously.

I'm sure many stores will allow a return or exchange, but delivery and installation and removal will be at your expense and you may only get store credit and miss out on any promotions. So, check the store for their policy and read it carefully. I imagine it's not something that happens often.

I heard that many of the high end stoves (professional models) do not have the self clean feature. I know a couple of people have the Kenmore Elite and love it but I would never buy a Kenmore anything again. My Kenmore Elite fridge has given me nothing but problems a month after a purchased it and their customer service/repair service is horrible. I have never heard of returning an oven but then again, why not? A friend of mine returned a brand new car after a week because she wanted the smaller version. I'd just be very specific at the store and get everything in writing.

Nothing defective about it, that was the way it was designed to work. Which may explain why Lowes has since stopped carrying it, and the salesman said we were not the first to return one.

Sears will take appliance back too with their satisfaction guaranteed policy.

We bought a Dacor freestanding oven a couple of years ago. I couldn't believe how much an oven can cost. The special included a discount and three year extend warranty. It is made in USA.

It is a dual fuel,self-cleaning convection oven. We are very happy with it. The only drawback is that there is no small drawer under the oven to put some pans in. Otherwise, all is good.
