If I understand it right we can get a $100 discount for being DVC members when we buy our AP's this year.

I have a few one day non-used passes from a trip last year. Can we use the value of these against the cost of the AP's along with the DVC discount?

I am not sure if One Day Passes have a "No Expiration" option available, but you would need that I believe in order to exchange them. Group passes, complimentary passes, etc cannot be exchanged.

If they were never used, they should be still valid, no expiration or not, correct - the 14 day window would not have started yet? I've been told by others that you can use 1 ticket as a "credit" towards the purchase of 1 AP (not sure if that counts as trading in or upgrading in Disney lingo - keep getting confused). Of course if they're something special, like you said, you might not be able to do anything with them, regardless.

We're trading in unused MYW tickets for APs when we arrive at the parks, some are no expiration, some are not. I've been told repeatedly that this is done all the time.

The passes I have are not special ones at all. They were the ones you had to buy when you got a room in order to get the meal plan. We paid full price for the 1 day ticket through Disney not a broker. Because they are one day tickets they never expire as long as they have not be used for that one day.

Does any one know where you buy the DVC AP's and if there is a phone number to that place so I could confirm how to do this?

We bought ours at Guest Relations just inside the gates at DHS. You will need your DVC Membership card and driver's licenses. It took us about 10minutes.

Have a great time!

You can do it from the DVC member web site also. Just go to DVCmember.com and go to the section that talkds about the AP discount. YOu click on the link and it automatically gives you the discounted price. You can either order the voucher and have it mailed to you if you have enough time before your trip, or you can do them as "will call".

You can buy them at any Guest Services window, but probably not at the lobby concierge at the resorts. I did exactly what you want to do. I had an unused 1 day ticket and upgraded to an AP with the DVC discount at the Epcot ticket window last fall.

Be careful though, I had to turn around and do it all again since the CM put the purchase date of the original 1 day ticket as the expiration on my AP. Obviously, I couldn't get in the gate with since my just-purchased AP had already expired!

Dear Twende

We are going to be in the exact same situation. So I would love to know if you get this exchange/upgrade confirmed.

We are planning on staying a week in a value resort with free dining and then go on over to a villa for the second week. I figured that the money spent on the one day passes would be like a "downpayment" towards APs that we are planning to get for everyone next year.

I will be using the remaining days of our 10d no exp tickets for everybody this upcoming trip, so for next year we plan on getting the APs instead. It would be nice to confirm that we can get both the DVC discount and the money spent on one day tickets toward the cost of new APs... that should put a serious dent in the price.:thumbsup2

Iam planning on doing this this august! we have one day base tix from free dining back in 2006...They are still on our old room keys unused.
I want to put them toward the cost of AP's with the dVC discount also.:)

How much are one day base tix?...Are they $75 adult and $63 child?

Is this the price that will go toward my AP?..3 adult 1 child..=$288.

Or will they use the cost that the tix were in 2006..which i do not know?

so basically can anyone tell me if this is correct...that i will get $288 off the price of AP's and also get the DVC discount?

That would make 3 adult and one child AP's (non premium) $1148 :hyper:

I believe you can credit one one-day ticket toward the DVC AP price. When I did this with two adult APs in December, the cost with tax came to $299. I did the purchase at Downtown Disney -- one at Guest Relations in Team Mickey, and the other at the kiosk in Westside (mixup in planning with two cars).

We have applied the one-day package tickets towards our DVC APs many times. You have to do it in person at guest relations. (We did the free dining in the past and had a couple of the one-day tickets). Not a problem at all.

Grrreat!

I'm assuming that the value applied to the "1 day credit" is the amount you paid originally?

Thanks

If you want to purchase your APS with the DVC discount once you're at WDW. just go to any guest service window at the parks or DTD. If you purchase an AP ahead of time you will receive a voucher which must be exchanged at a GS location anyway so it's just as easy to wait and buy when you arrive.

APs can't be purchased at the hotels.

Thank you all so much! This will really help keep the price down for us this trip!:cool1:

A couple of points...

1. Yes, your one-day ticket is still valid. You're correct that you do not need the no-expiration option for a ticket that's never been used.

2. Yes, you can use this one-day ticket toward the cost of your annual pass, and yes you can combine that with the DVC discount.

3. You can purchase new annual passes online, but you can only do upgrades in person at WDW.

4. You must do the upgrade at a Guest Relations or Ticket Sales window. These are located at any pack, including water parks, and at Downtown Disney. Hotel concierges cannot do any transactions dealing with annual passes.

5. To ensure you get the maximum amount for your upgrade for your original ticket, use it first. Yep, that's right. A ticket that's has been used can be worth more than a ticket that hasn't been used. If a ticket is not used, it is considered an exchange. It will be exchanged at the value you originally paid for it, if you purchased it directly from Disney. If you purchased it from a ticket broker, it's actually exchanged at the value the broker paid Disney for it -- which will be even less than what you paid. A ticket that has been used, on the other hand, is considered an upgrade instead of an exchange. You'll be given the full gate price on the day of the exchange toward your upgrade. So, use the ticket, enjoy the park for the day, then stop and upgrade the ticket to your annual passes on your way out that evening, when you're ready to hop to another park, or even the next morning. A ticket can be upgraded at any time within 14 days of its first use, even if all entitlements on the ticket have been used.

6. If you go back to do the upgrade on a day after the day you've used it, the annual pass will be back-dated to that first use.

7. To get the DVC discount, you must have your blue DVC membership card when you purchase the upgrade. Also, you must have a government-issued ID for every adult DVC AP you're buying. The address on every ID must match the address of the member. If anyone lives at a different address and does not have their own DVC membership card, they are not eligible for the discount.

Isn't this point irrelevant since we're talking about a one park, one day ticket?

Dave thanks for the very concise information. It is greatly appreciated! :thumbsup2 :worship:

I was wondering the same thing about using the one day passes first.

Two of the one dayers are from December 2007 and one is from May 2007. Has there been a price increase since then? Is it worth me using them and then going back to Guest relations and getting the AP's?

I have to go to Guest relations to get my parents AP's any way that first morning.

It's not necessarily the type of ticket that determines if it's beneficial to use a ticket first, it's when you got it, who you got it from, and how much it was bought for. Using a ticket first before upgrading applies to one-day tickets just as it does to other ticket types.

Since this was a ticket purchased directly from Disney, the following would apply: If the package with which the ticket was purchased was booked after the August 5, 2007 ticket price increase and if there isn't another price increase between now and the OP's next trip, it won't make a difference if the ticket is upgraded before or after use, because the gate price at the time of the upgrade will be the same price the OP originally paid.

There are so many "IFs" to be considered, though, it's just easier to recommend everyone use their tickets first before upgrading. That way they're not taking a chance on missing out on a potential savings.

Your December 2007 tickets should still be the current price - provided there isn't a price increase between now and your travel dates. (They happen with only one-to-two days warning and can happen any time of year.)

Your one ticket from May 2007 would have been purchased for $67. The current price is $71. If you don't want to deal with it, you'd just be losing $4.

The guest relations window at each park is right next to the turnstiles. You can literally go through the gate with the ticket, turn right around, and go to guest relations to do the upgrade. (For $4, though, I'm not sure I'd personally go to the effort unless there was no line at all.)

Let me get this straight, with the DVC membership only in my name, I can still use it to get a discounted AP for not only myself, but my husband as well? :confused3 Oh please say "YES" :worship:
