Buying Alcohol

Well, my husband and I will be spending our 20th anniversary at Saratoga Springs in November (without the kids) and we would love to have some cocktails in our room. :cheer2:

We are taking ME from the airport, and while I've read you can get groceries delivered, what about alcohol? We can't bring it in our carry on based on new laws, and I'd be afraid to pack some wine or vodka bottles in our checked lugguage.

Is there a liquor store at the Orlando airport? I'm sure it would be expensive, but we're talking about a bottle of vodka, a bottle of champagne and maybe one or two bottle of wine.:drinking:

Any suggestions? Thanks, Michele

Michele,
I haven't used them but I've read that the Garden Grocers will buy food and liquor and deliver it to your resort. The resorts do sell alcohol, pint size bottles at the BWV (was there last week). Hope this helps. Happy anniversary.

It seems to me that I remember seeing hard liquor at the SSR market, along with beer and bottles of wine.

I never bought anything there, but once I bought two cans of beer at the BCV market and it was like $11 or $12. Not cheap.

You could also take a taxi to a nearby liquor store. If you're going to buy lots of booze it might be cheaper.

Enjoy your trip.

there is most certainly bottles of wine at the market, as well as certain liquors, behind the cashiers at the market. if you take a taxi back out to the grocery just a mile or two away, goodings in think, there is a liquor store there too. have fun

Great suggestions. I just checked Gardengrocer.com and they don't sell alcohol.

Does anyone remember if the airport has a liquor store?

Michele

I can personally vouch for the fact that they sell some pretty good hard booze in the SSR store. Enjoyed a bottle of Stoli the last time I was there!

Congrads on your 20th. My DW and celebrated our 20th in May of this year. We went up to Victoria BC, but usually we come home to DVC every May to celebrate our anniversary.

They don't list it on their website. When you place your grocery order, you list any alcohol you want in the "comments" section of your order. The only problem is that you won't know what it will cost until they actually purchase it and deliver your order. We ordered some wine from them in May and just specified what we wanted and a price range. It worked out fine.

Although Garden Grocer doesn't show it on their order form, you can use the comment section to order beer or wine. I never inquired about hard liquor, but since that would require a separate stop (grocery stores in FL sell wine & beer) they may not deliver that.

All of the Disney resorts I have stayed at have a small selection of liquor behind the counter by the register. I have only purchased Kahlua (I think that's what I decided on) and it was not cheap, but for the convenience it seemed reasonable. I have found the recent wine selection in the Disney shops to be really poor and the price of beer is just silly. You can also choose some wine in EPCOT and have it delivered to your resort.

May I also suggest - UPS or FedEx?

We celebrated our 25th at BWV - and I shipped a box - I wanted our special liquor Gran Marnier, as well as a special (but inexpensive) Champagne - so I went to our local UPS center got the bubble wrap and shipped it a week before we were to arrive - I included our ressie # on our label to ourselves - it arrived, and everything was great!!

We've also purchased wine at the resorts - when we stayed at the Poly - they uncorked our wine for us free of charge! (I'll bet theyll do this at SSR too!)

THis next trip I'm going to purchase the Rosa Regale we fell in love with in Italy at EPCOT - I'm thinking it will be cheaper from our wine store ($19.99) than at Disney... (not that I'm cheap mind you ;) )

I'd be afraid to pack some wine or vodka bottles in our checked lugguage.
For what it's worth, bagged and bubble wrapped bottles should be perfectly fine in your checked bags. I've brought many bottles home (I like to buy local stuff when on vacation) and never had a problem.

We always bring some wine to WDW, packed carefully in checked luggage (those heavy shoe boxes used for sneakers are "alcohol bottle" sized, even with thin bubble wrap around each bottle). We have never had a problem with breakage, and even though it usually means we have one more piece of luggage (because of weight limits), the extra room on the return trip is used for any souvenirs or gifts we bring back!:thumbsup2

Thanks for all the great suggestions!

FYI - the Orlando airport does NOT have a liquor store.

Mike and I will make a toast to all the DIS'ers!

We also have packed bottles wrapped in bubble wrap and tucked into clothes in our checked luggage w/o any problems. Even have done it on international flights and never had any breakage. Have a Happy Anniversary in WDW!

I didn't know that a private person could ship alcohol from one state to another. I live in NY does anyone know if we're permitted to do that?

There is a liquor store adjacent to Goodings.

I received several beer orders from gardengrocer.com. LOL Just write what you want in the comment section. I found the prices to be the same as at home.

For personal use (which this qualifies as), or as a gift....yes. Because you've already paid the "sin" tax on the items.

For sale or distribution...no.

Largely, that decision would probably be made based on quantity. A bottle of vodka, a bottle of Kahlua, and a couple bottles of wine....nobody is going to care.

A case or two of wine, a suitcase of beer, and half a dozen bottles of hard alcohol and you might want to reconsider. :)

Congratulations on your anniversary! DH and I will be celebrating our 20th as well on September 20th but we wont be at WDW until November. And I will be sure to celebrate with plenty of Rosa Regale that I also fell in love with at EPCOT in Italy. Be sure and try some! Have fun! :)
