Buying airfare thru Disney

Booking through Disney saved us like 150 dollars on Airtran. They gave me the code as soon as I booked the trip and I quickly went to Airtrans website to reserve my seats since I have a 4 and 6 year old going with me.

does that only work for AirTran or do you think this would work if you booked Delta with them? ( we don't have Air Tran in MS....booo)

Tickets for our Sept. trip are cheaper thru Disney than from Airtran directly.

Are there any downsides to buying airline tickets thru Disney? Would we lose the ability to do online checkin or to call Airtran and get a credit if the prices drop dramatically? :confused3

Well I got the answer to my own question so I thought I'd share. According to Airtran, if a travel agency (including Disney) provides e-tickets (as opposed to paper tickets) then you can do online checkin, prepay for seats, etc. on Airtran's website. :goodvibes

Disney appears to sell tickets for many different airlines - not just AirTran. I know for a fact they also carry Delta. Just price out a package online and see what they have available.

Do you have to book a package in order to get airfare, or can you book room only?

I had never even thought of booking my airfare directly through Disney! After reading this thread, I decided to see what it might do for me! My family is planning a trip in September from Illinois and I checked the price on AirTran's website vs. the price directly through Disney's reservation site and was shocked to find that I can save $190, for the same exact flights, by booking it through Disney!!!

I'm wondering the same thing, when I try to book a room only online it doesn't even give me the option to buy airfare.

OP here- does anyone know when this lower airfare thru Disney started? I've taken many trips, but never tried it.

Airfare changes all the time on Disney's website, as it does on the airlines website. Sometimes Disney is cheaper, sometimes the airlines site is cheaper. Last year I found a great price on Disney and it was more expensive on Airtran. I waited too long and it went up on Disney's site. Then a few weeks later, Airtran's site dropped fares and Disney's didn't. It changes everyday, so go with whoever's lower.

I've been checking every day and it finally dropped on Disney's site again. I just booked at $209 r/t per person from Canton-Akron.

Oops, I forgot to add that we are on Airtran as well. We thought about driving for a second and had estimated at least $400 on gas, plus hotels and food for the 16 drive each way. We are paying $628 total for 3 people and will get there in just over 2 hours! :thumbsup2

I did it over the phone, added air to a package I had already booked.

I added airfare to our package in September, flying Airtran. For the 4 of us it was less than $200 r/t each with direct flights from Indiana. Cannot beat that anywhere at this point. You can still access everything on the airlines website with the code given to you by Disney (seats, baggage, online check-in, etc.) If you purchase travel insurance thru Disney, it also covers airfare which is nice with little ones and unexpected occurrences. We purchased our flight thru Disney 3 years ago also, and it went very smoothly.:)

I added airfare to my September package today and for three of us flying AirTran from Buffalo was total 538.00 approx 179 a piece. This was 100 cheaper than anywhere else!! Oh yea and they were direct flights both ways!!

I booked my Jet Blue flight through Disney but I want to choose my seating for the airplane and they did not give me a confirmation number for Jet Blue. Anyone have any ideas?

The Walt Disney Travel Company has an internal air department that sometimes arranges bulk air rates for particular routes, depending on how popular those routes are, WDTC can get reduced rates - HOWEVER - sometimes these flights, seats, etc can be more restrictive than if you booked yourself. Be sure to ask about restrictions.

Air can only be booked with a package.

When you purchase Disney insurance with a MYW package, the insurance covers your air, no matter how you booked it.

Just booked Airtran for 6 passengers thru Disney. Saved $510 over listed price. Harrisburg, PA to MCO Aug 28-Sept 4. $199 pp. Great Deal.

Isn't there another advantage to booking airline with Disney? When you book everything with them and add on travel insurance, aren't your flights now covered, too?

Also, I booked flights with my package from Disney last year and was able to ask them for my JetBlue confirmation # - from there, I was able to choose seats for my family right from the JetBlue site.

Thanks so much for this - I need my confirmation number! I will call to get it. Anyone know how easy it is to change a flight to add a day to a trip? Big fee? I booked through Disney and am flying Jet Blue.
