Buying a TV...now or later.

DD22 will be moving out after graduation in June. She already has most of the items she needs in storage, but she's looking for a nice sized television for her living room. (At least 27 to 32 inches).

I know that TVs go on sale in January. But should she go ahead and buy her television now, or wait until June? She cannot afford too big of a television right now (no more than $400). She is, however, expecting a large tax refund. If she receives her Form W2 by January 15, chances are good she'll receive her refund by Super Bowl Sunday when the sales end.

If she buys now, she'll store the TV until June. But could prices go down before June. If necessary, she has a small, 15 inch TV that would suffice until next Black Friday.

As always, many thanks.

My GUESS...

The TV on sale for $x for SB Sunday will be $x in June. I'm thinking by June there will be new TVs out, meaning the "new" TVs in January will be discounted.

HDTV's have done nothing but drop in price and there's nothing to indicate they're going to do anything but continue in that direction. I think if she waits, she won't be missing anything on "sale" right now.

The 42" we bought two and a half years ago for $1500 is now about $750.

I too would wait. Plus if she stores it until June, she could risk something happening to it in storage.

I would wait, there is a glut of televisions on the market and you never know if the money will be needed for anything else. IMO purchasing a product and storing it away and letting the MFG warranty go as well is not a good idea.

Thanks everyone. She's also looking at Craigslist, but I don't think that's a good idea.

She'll wait until June. Hope there's a good summer sale. :)

I would wait...

I just picked up a 32" from Costco for $289.00 normal price...

Things will just be better later on...
