Buying a resale contract with the same UY?

Hello All,

If I purchase a resale contract with the same UY as my current contracts, does the once a year transfer rule apply? What if it is a different resort with the same UY?

I had not considered resale because I want flexability and ease of use. I have added on once with Disney and it was very easy, however with the difference in price it has me thinking!

Thanks for your help in advance!:flower3:

Hi Gail,
When you purchase the same use year you already have, regardless of resort, the points will be added under your current membership number. This is true if you buy resale or directly from Disney.

It is my understanding that when all of your contracts are under the same membership number you can not transfer between contracts. If you owned two use years and had two membership numbers then you could do a transfer once a year.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong though I have always been under the impression that contracts under the same membership number can not have points transferred between them.

Hope that helps.

If you buy resale with the same UY (even if it is a different resort), have it titled exactly the same way as your other contracts (ie: if they are in your name alone then the reale is done is your name alone), and you have the resale broker let Disney know, then it will be considered an add on to the other contracts and you will be able to use the points together at 7 months without the transfer.

You only have to transfer when the contracts are under different member #'s.

If you will have the same Use Year and the contract will be titled exactly the same as your master contract, I'd contact DVC to let them know about your purchase and they can combine it with your current contract. You would not need to transfer any points since they would be there already.

If you have 2 separate contracts, you will still have the 1 transfer rule if you transfer points from one contract into the other (that would use the one transfer for each contract). If you transfer from one contract to another member, you could still have another transfer for the other contract - but if ou transfer between your two contracts it would use the one transfer for both. If you can get DVC to combine the 2 contracts, no transfers would be necessary (or allowed) since all of your points would already be combined in the one contract.

Enjoy! :)

If you did add under the same UY and they were combined into one membership #, if you had to sell could you sell the contracts separately? That is, if I have 160pts and add 50 (in same UY, same membership #), would I have to sell it as a 210pt contract or could it be sold as 2?

No, they still are separate contracts and can be sold individually. It's just that you can use the points at 7 months (11 months if they are the same resort) as though it was one big contract to book a stay.

When contracts are under different member #'s, then you have to complete a transfer from one to the other in order to combine points for a night's stay.

Exactly what I wanted to hear :yay:

Thanks!

The master contract, the first one purchased will be 1234567.0 the 2nd one will be 1234567.1.

When you make a reservation, MS will take x amount of points from contract 0 and x amount from contract 1.

If you sell, you can sell 0 or 1 or both.

Thanks everyone for the information. It opens my eyes to a whole new world of resale...
