This a very heated topic on the boards. The refillable mug is only for the one trip you are on, but I do not think a cast member would say anything to you if you used it on future trips.
What do the mugs look like nowadays? I went last time and they were all general to any location. I really like getting one at each resort. Are they back to the resort name mugs now or do they still use the yoamd design?
Most of the time, it's not that beneficial to get a refillable mug at a DVC resort since there usually isn't anyplace to refill the mug close to the villas. Plus you'll have a pretty good sized refrigerator to fill up with those of your choice.
Refillable mugs expire at midnight of the day you check out of your resort.
I bought my first refillable mugs at the Polynesian (at Capt Cook's) in 1997. There were signs posted then that they were only good at the resort you bought them at for the duration of the trip you bought them. Newer mugs (within the last four years or so) have the details posted on the side of the mug.
on our trip last month, we spotted several people using the old wilderness lodge mugs. it didn't seem that CMs were enforcing the policy that mugs expire at the end of the trip when purchased.
Officially, only good for that stay. In practice, people bring them back all the time. Whether you bring them back or not is, for the most part, between you and Jiminy Cricket.
