buying a cell phone at costco do you get anything extra??

we have a verizon plan and its about to expire...what are the advantages
of buying at costco any??

We have been looking around at other cell phone options. We don't have Costco, so I can't really answer your question. My son has a pay as you go phone through Virgin Mobile. I was upgrading his minutes and noticed that they have a plan that is very tempting. For $89.99 a month, you have unlmited minutes and unlimited texting. They also have cheaper plans with less minutes. Right now my husband and I are paying about $140 a month for our two cell phones and are tied down to a contract. We are thinking about going with the Virgin Mobile plan and get the $89.99 for me and the $24.99 plan for him (I use mine a lot, he hardly does). It is cheaper than what we are paying now and we aren't committed to someone for 2+ years. I assume other pay as you go companies have similar options.

Your best bet is always to call Verizon directly. We just had our upgrade and received a great deal over the phone. Be patient though and allow 30 to 45 minutes for the call. Good luck!

You get a free accessory pack when you get the phone through Costco. The thing I didn't like was that you had to pay the cost up front and get a rebate in the mail for the "discount." For example I was looking at a new phone for DD and on the verizon website it would cost me $69. At Costco it would have cost me $129 up front, with a free accessory pack and a $60 rebate. I didn't need the accessories for her, so we went with the verizon site. I hate to wait for rebates!

I renewed my phone contract through Costco b/c they let me keep my existing contract. The Verizon stores here all said I'd need to change my contract when I renewed which would have made my contract more expensive for the features I needed. The guy from Verizon at Costco let me keep my old contract; we paid for the phone up front and took the rebate. I don't remember if the rebate was in check form or in a Costco card, but it came pretty quickly. The accessory pack was adequate, but the most important thing for me was keeping my old plan without having to pay more for the same features.

I have Alltel and, maybe Verizon is different, but the last time I renewed by telephone, it got so screwed up it took over a year to fix it. I will never renew by telephone again....only face to face!
